Millennium City is the premiere city in the Champions Online MMO.
It is also the starting point for all players in the MMO whether or not they take the tutorial.
History
Millennium City is a city built from the ashes of another.
In 1993, Doctor Destroyer destroyed the City of Detroit using space-based weapons and meteors. The death toll was well over 60,000, the highest single-handed loss of life by domestic terrorism in the United States ever. The devastation and the subsequent fires and looting that followed forced many of the surviving businesses out.
But the survivors of Detroit, especially the various heroes that risked their lives to stop Doctor Destroyer, refused to allow Detroit to simply fall. They didn't just want to rebuild the city. They meant to replace it with one better. Taller. More majestic.
They put their efforts into rebuilding the area and forging a new city. A new city for the new millennium.
Millennium City.
Since then, Millennium City has become the central city for superhero activity, eclipsing New York City, Washington D.C., and Los Angeles. This can be traced in part to their hero-friendly accommodations, but also because of the meritocratic system of rewarding registered heroes for their activities. Being a hero can be considered a full-time job in Millennium City, complete with benefits and pension, and the citizens not only welcome the presence of the heroes, but they even help the heroes with words of encouragement and tips of other criminal activity.
Government
City Hall
City affairs and court cases are handled in City Hall, located in the City Center district. The mayor and city council are elected officials.
The current (and longtime) mayor is Calvin Biselle.
Key Areas
Renaissance Center
The Renaissance Center is the starting point for visitors. It is a place designed exclusively to the heroes, where heroes can meet and socialize. It is where one would often find the city's premiere hero: Defender. It is also the location for the Powerhouse resource center, where heroes can upgrade and hone their abilities as well as make changes to their appearance. There are also open-air tailors, trading centers, invention stations, floating billboards, a hero bank, a nightclub, and a docked "blimp".
The "Ren-Cen" is also the place where many of the big celebrations go on such as the Anniversary Celebration, Foxbat Con (yes, it exists), and the Winter Event.
This is where you can also travel to other locations via awaiting turbo-jets and helicopters.
Ravenswood Academy have a branch campus located near the wall overlooking Westside and not far from City Center.
Westside
Westside is located due west of the Renaissance Center. This is the first location that heroes are sent to after training. It is a gritty area where gangs and hoodlums run rampant. The jail is also located there which means the area is plagued with frequent jailbreaks and escaped criminals.
Westside also bears most of the scars from the Battle of Detroit that are still visible, despite literally decades of promises and pledges to fix them.
The first Chinatown is located in the heart of the zone. It is suspected some of the more influential people there are responsible for the slowdown and stonewalling of repairs and rebuilding for reasons that have yet to be discovered.
Other places of note: Sherrera's Bar, Carl's Gym, and WCOC's Broadcast Facility.
The docks also have a few good places for heroes to meet and converse, just as long as you keep an eye on the gangs.
City Center
The functional heart of the city is located due north of the Renaissance Center. City Hall and the subsequent city offices are found here. Although the streets are cleaner and the businesses more upscale, crime is still rampant and gangs still bully their way.
ARGENT and The Mind, Inc. have their corporate offices here.
Downtown
Located due east of the Renaissance Center, Downtown is where Corporate America has taken hold. Key buildings here include Champions Headquarters, U.N.T.I.L. headquarters, Harmon Industries, the second Chinatown, Millennium City Police Headquarters, and the Battle for Detroit Museum. A crashed Qularr mothership can be seen in the lake just behind the Battle for Detroit Museum.
It is said there are certain bookstores in the area that cater to magic if you know where to look for them.
Downtown also has an underground mall.
A little-known company called Cryptic Studios have a small campus located in the northern side of the zone.
