'''Coming Soon To A Virtual Convention Near You!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

We are proud to announce that both Battlerock X and .Ra will be guests in this year's virtual convention '''DawnCon VI''' starting on July 25th.

A virtual convention is one that takes place only online.  In this case, the convention is hosted by the superhero group '''[https://www.paragondawn.com/ Paragon Dawn]''' and their streaming radio service '''Dawn Radio'''.  As the title implies, this is the sixth year of this virtual convention, and it spans multiple MMO platforms, including the not-so-secret [[City of Heroes MMO]] private servers and [[Champions Online MMO]].  The advantage of having a virtual convention is that you do not have to travel, stay in overpriced hotels, consume overpriced food, or spend money on autographs and bootleg videos.

Several events are scheduled which will span multiple MMORPGs, including interviews, chats, and contests.

.Ra will be a returning guest for DawnCon.  He is known for the 3D animated graphic novels such as '''[[The Crucible]]''' and '''[[The Crucible Unlimited]]'''.

This will be Battlerock X's first time appearing as a guest for DawnCon, although he has attended last year's convention.  He is best known for a variety of MMO-based comics, most recently '''[[Future's Guardian]]''' and '''[[Battlerock Comics Presents]]'''.

'''Welcome to 2020!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Welcome to the year 2020!

It's been a hectic year for the comic creators as many of us have had to deal with personal and/or medical issues, which is why you haven't seen as many new comics compared to recent years.

Also... this week marks two sad anniversaries.
The "return" of the [[City of Heroes MMO]] in the form of private servers has been something of a surprise to people, although it remains to be seen if this will be something permanent.

The most obvious one is the anniversary of the '''September 11th, 2001''', terrorist attacksBut just as important within the City of Heroes is the one-year anniversary of the destruction of [[Galaxy City]].
On the home front, we have disabled forum registrations until further noticeThose already with access to the forums will still be able to log in.  Any possible new registrations will be handled on a one-on-one basis through someone that is already a part of our group.  You can thank the endless wave of spammers and spambots and hackers for this.

On '''September 13, 2011''', Shivan meteors rained down on Paragon City, destroying a good portion of the Galaxy City zone.  Thousands were killed or lost.  Even more were injured or left homeless.  The events of that day had a devastating effect on many heroes, including former members of the [[Guardians of the Dawn]] supergroup.
Hopefully the new year will be better than the old one.

For more on the events surrounding that day, visit our special '''"[[Devastation of Galaxy City]]"''' entry.

'''Happy 10th Anniversary, Champions!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

We want to take this time to say Happy 10th Anniversary to '''[[Champions Online MMO|Champions Online]]'''!

===BattlerockX 23:36, 4 September 2012 (UTC)===
The MMO went online on September 1st, 2009, and every year they celebrate with a month-long event with a giant cake and free concerts.
'''The End?'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

For those that do not know, NC Soft, the parent company of Paragon Studios, has decided to terminate the City of Heroes MMOThe MMO is set to be shut down on November 30th.
This is the MMO that was created by the same people who created [[City of Heroes MMO|City of Heroes]], based on the role-playing game that also served as the inspiration for CoH.  You can see the similarities with some of the heroes, especially when it comes to [[Witchcraft]] and [[Sister Psyche]].  But the developers also made sure that Champions would feature some things that they could not incorporate in CoH, such as being able to pick up objects and throw them.  ''(They also had a belly slider, but somehow that got removed.)'' They also introduced the concept of vehicles, essentially turning your character into a customizable vehicle that they can use to travel.

The end of the MMO, though, does not necessarily mean the end of the City of Comic CreatorsThere are discussions about the future of the group and the website that will go beyond the MMO itself.
Sadly, their content slackened somewhat in recent years, going into what they call "maintenance mode" while the developers worked on other projectsHowever, with the recent news of a "hidden server" for the now-shuttered City of Heroes showing continued interest in superhero MMOs, and with the 10th Anniversary, Cryptic has been adding more and more content.

Keep checking in here for updates when they are available.
We want to take this time to wish Champions Online a Happy 10th Anniversary and for providing content for comic creators.

'''Issue 1:'''
Welcome to October ''(almost November)''.

We are still experiencing problems with the email confirmation process.  We think we have narrowed down the problem to something in our configuration, so now we just have to work on fixing that.
With the recent focus on the world of [[Champions Online MMO]] through the pages of '''[[The Crucible|"The Crucible"]]''' and the upcoming resumption of '''[[Future's Guardian|"Future's Guardian"]]''' issues, there's a new look at all entries based in that MMO.

To those new members that have been trying to get confirmation, you do not need to create new accounts to test to see if the problem has been fixedOnce you log in you can click on "My Preferences" and request a new confirmationIf the problem remains you will get another error message.  Current members, please try to refrain from changing your email address until we can get this matter resolved.
The most obvious update is on your left with the "Game Resources".  The original Wiki for Champions Online was shuttered a few years ago, so a new link had to be foundBut there were actually two: the "official" Wiki site according to the official Champions Online website and the "PRIMUS" WikiThey're still not as helpful as, say, the Paragon Wiki when [[City of Heroes MMO|City of Heroes]] was still operating, but they do provide some background information and images.

Please keep checking here for updates on this situation.
In addition, you'll see a few of our entries be updated with images and relevant information, getting you caught up with what is going on in the world of the Champions as seen through our various comics.

'''Issue 2:'''
We hope you enjoy the new content and the new issues.

There have been some minor changes made to the [[:Category:Missing in Action|"Missing in Action"]] comic entries.  Because cohcomics is no longer active, squatter sites have taken over that domain, including some that could pose a threat to your computer, so all old links to the MIA issues had to be removed.

On a related note, the first three issues of the '''"[[UD Chronicles]]"''' have been recovered and restored as part of the '''[[Archive Project]]'''. They are now available for you to read and enjoy. Because there are other issues still Missing, the series has both the "Archive Project" and "Missing in Action" status attached to it.

'''Keeping It Simple for 2018'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Hey everyone!  Welcome to 2018!

===BattlerockX 20:55, 14 August 2012 (UTC)===
Your not-so-friendly-neighborhood admin ''(just ask the forum spammers)'' is here just to give you a hint as to what to expect from us this year.
'''Minor Glitch'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Just wanted to let users know that we are currently experiencing some problems with our email confirmation system.
You've probably noticed that our news hasn't been very fresh.  There've been a few gaps.  Sadly, those can't be helped.  Things happen outside of the CCC that we can't control.  Family emergencies, workplace issues, lack-of-workplace issues, that sort of stuff.

New users can still sign up for access, but they will not have the ability to create or edit entries until we have the confirmation process fixedCurrent users that have already been confirmed will still be able to create and edit entriesHowever if they try to change their email address or try to re-confirm their status, they will get the same error message as the new users.
We used to have many contributorsNow we are lucky if we can get one new comic per monthAnd I don't blame them either, because things do happen that we have no control over.

The confirmation system was set up to prevent spammers from hijacking our resources, so please be patient with us while we get this matter resolvedWe will update you as to the status of this problem.
Our forum has basically become a clogged cesspool of spambots trying to get in and me continually denying them and banning their illegal IP addresses and trying not to ban legitimate IP addresses.  And I have to tell you, this is very trying on meI hate these people!  There is no torment on this planet that could be given to these people that would be enough for the torment they dish out.

So for this year, we're going to be keeping it simple.  Our custom banners here on the front page will be simple.  Very simple.  Painfully simple.

We'll have news every so often, when there's something worth saying.  And on occasion we'll have a feature article.  But please don't expect something new every month.

Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
I wish we could do more... but for right now, that's all we can do with so few people getting involved and way too much to do.

So if there's nothing else between now and next January, enjoy the rest of the year, folks.

'''Greetings and Salutations!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

First, we would like to extend greetings to our newest CCC member, '''Ra'''.

If the name sounds familiar, it should, because Ra was the author of '''"[[The Forever Men]]"''' series, and hopefully he will be able to expand more on the series, which has been saved as part of the '''[[Archive Project]]'''.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 18:21, 1 February 2018 (PST) )''

Recently he has been busy working on his current series, '''Dawn Enterprises''', which is a 3D-graphic series that you can find at his [http://www.coxcomics.com/ website], and hopefully we will have more about the series here in in the Wiki.

'''Quick Update'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Second, if you check the Featured Article, you'd know that the latest '''[[City of Comic Creators Compendium|C.C.C. Compendium]]''' issue is now online.  This issue features stories from [[Rona Cosell|Rona LIVE]], [[User:Majordeej|The New Allied Fighters]], and the first of a 2-part exclusive [[Tales from Paragon City]].
Funny how time flies.

And finally, we have the first three issues of the '''[[UD Chronicles]]''' that have been recovered and will soon be added to the [[Archive Project]] so they can be available for readers to enjoy.
One minute we're talking about the new year and the new president, and the next we're almost halfway into the year.

There's a quick update with our forum and our persistent spammers.  Although they still cannot get in without administrative approval, they haven't stopped trying, sending requests using different IP addresses.  But we have tool that let us identify the co-opted IP addresses of those spammers.  And some spammers are so notorious that they send multiple requests using the same username.  No matter how many times we ban their accounts and their IP addresses, they keep using the same username over and over and over again.

However we have tools to cut those down as well. One in particular lets us "reserve" certain names like "Admin" or "Administrator" so that people can't choose them or some derivation of them.  Now we're adding the notorious usernames of the spammers to those "reserved" names.  So now spammers will no longer be able to use their unique names, and the more of them that try, the more names that will be added to the "reserved" list.

Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
So the forum is ready for those of us that still want to use it for discussions.

'''New Year, New President, New Rules!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

One of the good questions to ask yourself when developing your characters is not just WHO they are, but who are they NORMALLY?
And now we're back... hope everyone had a great vacation.

For instance, your hero ''(presuming it's male)'' doesn't fly around 24-7 beating on gangs, does he?  What does your hero do when he's not "saving the day"?
Few bits of news to catch us up.  Apparently the spammers haven't gone away even though they are beaten.  They keep trying, we keep banning and blocking when they try.

Having more than one costume slot in-game ''(either through the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Tailor#Extra_Costume_Slots Tailor challenges] or bought through the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Halloween_Event Halloween Event])'' gives you the perfect opportunity to come up with your character's "civilian guise".
We've had to make one more adjustment because they found a way to get in by using a dummy email to confirm their IP. So until further notice, all forum applications must be approved by the admins before they can get in, and that includes valid applications from real people. Sorry, but you can thank the Internet's criminal scum for that change.

A few suggestions when developing that "Mild-Mannered" side:
Another change is we've found a way to get rid of those annoying automatic Table of Contents frames.  It's a little command that we've started to include in all Comic Box, Character Box, and Storyline Box frames.  Those pages that currently use those features don't have to do anything because it's part of the code now so it's already in there.  It doesn't affect the content that you put in, only removes the table of contents box that can take up a huge chunk of web space when you have a big series to list.

* Think for a minute about what your character would normally do if they weren't saving the day or ruining it.  Is he or she a student?  Librarian?  Insurance salesperson?  Construction worker?  [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHDawxWU2rY Shoe Salesman?]  Once you have that idea, then you can come up with an appropriate outfit.
Hope everyone have survived the winter and the wrath of our new president.

* Think plain clothes.  Jackets, suit-coats, skirts (for women), slacks, sneakers, work boots, strappy heels (for women), cargo pants, tee shirts, and baggy shirts are all available for you to develop that "plain" look.

* You can come up with a "custom" tee shirt for your character by using chest emblems. If you are wearing a jacket, be sure to set the chest emblem to "under" so it will appear on the chest under the jacket and not as a lapel image.
Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions? Any tips you would like to share?  [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=125.0 Let us know!]

* While it's okay to have wildly-different skin tones for your character's "heroic" or "villainous" guise, you may want to think something a little more "plain" for your "off-duty" look.

* Glasses are <u>not required</u>!  Sure they may make you look intelligent, but don't feel you need to have glasses for your "civilian" guise, especially if your character normally wears a mask.  But if you feel that your character needs to be a little "edgy", then look into sunglasses.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 02:14, 16 February 2017 (PST) )''

* Save your character's outfits!
===BattlerockX 04:33, 19 November 2016 (PST)===

* Come up with more than one civilian outfit.  It's one thing to wear the same "hero" or "villain" outfit day-in-and-day-out, but how many people put on the same jeans and shirt every single day?  It sort of gets ripe after a while.  Plus, maybe you want to have a more "formal" attire for certain events, like for a [[ChaseArcanum_Specials#The_Wedding_of_Manticore_and_Sister_Psyche|wedding]] or even for a [[Justice-Knights#.239_Obey_6of6|funeral]].
'''Happy Holidays from the City of Comic Creators!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

* Finally, check your auras and power customizations for your "civilian" attireIf you don't want people to "know" your character is really a hero or villain, then you should keep auras off and powerset tinting as minimal as possible.
This will most likely be the last news update for the yearWith the holidays fast approaching, essential time is being placed on stories and family, with more on the latter and less on the former.

The spambot challenge continues, even in a very limited capacity.  Every so often a spammer will sneak in a user account that they have to personally confirm and put up their spam posts, but this does lead to them being deleted, their IP address, host service, and email account blocked forever, and the post wiped.  It's a one-and-done deal for them, and that is not how a typical spammer likes to do things.  It's a losing battle for them even before they try it.

So with the exception of the filthy spammers, who deserve nothing more than fire-roasted coal-and-reindeer-dropping enemas for the rest of their pathetic lives, I'd like to wish everyone the best in this Holiday Season!

Thoughts? Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
Oh, and just because the updates will be paused for the holidays, that doesn't mean the admins will be taking a break from the site. Sorry, spammers, you still lose.

See you all in 2017.

'''Keeping The Costumes Simple'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's a tip for comic creators...
Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=125.0 Let us know!]

The City of Heroes MMO has probably one of the best character/costume creation options in the whole MMO genre.  There are literally thousands of possibilities can be created even from the costume pieces only available for the free players.  Think of all of the jackets and shirts and capes and belts and textures to choose from!  And there are plenty of people willing to show off these incredibly complicated costumes with all of the ornate designs that they can put on them.

But sometimes with all of the complex details at your fingertips, it's entirely possible to make your character <u>too</u> complicated.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 04:33, 19 November 2016 (PST) )''

Think for a minute about some of the early comic books of the 1930's and 40's.  Think how relatively simple their costumes were.  A lot of the superhero costumes of the time were patterned after circus outfits or theater costumes.  Granted, they had to be simple for the ink-and-paper artists of the day, but that simplicity also had the advantage of standing out for the readers.
===BattlerockX 04:12, 4 September 2016 (PDT)===

Sometimes keeping the costume simple works.  Let the readers get drawn into what the character can do and not just how they look in a flashy and ornate outfit.
'''The Spambots Have Fallen!'''

Well we've gone a whole month ''(plus)'' with the new measures put in place in [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php our forum] and the attacks on our forum by those dirty, filthy, amoral spammers and their spambots have decreased dramatically.  All we are getting now are the ones whose IPs have been banned, and I suspect some of those are automated.  They check in, they hit the ban wall, lather, rinse, repeat 2 more times, then check in a few hours later.  The rest seemed to have learned that now that they can no longer use phony email addresses to register, they don't even bother trying anymore.

Chalk that up as a win to this admin, who has been spending considerable amounts of time checking the forum and playing whack-a-spambot with these goat-humpers.

In other news... [[:user:Sin Stalker|Sin Stalker]], our real admin ''(since I've been busy slaying spambots)'', has been finding these great video clips on YouTube focusing on elements that go into great comic books.

And for City of Comic Creators members, we have a [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?board=8.0 Help Request section in our forum] that you're more than welcome to use should you need help or feedback with your comic series.  I know from experience that Sin Stalker and some of the other comic creators are great sounding boards to help make your comics the best they can be!
'''Overpower!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's a tip for comic creators...

When using in-game activity for your comic material, it's always better to be in a zone where you're "overpowered" than in one where you are out of your league.

Thanks to changes made in the City of Heroes MMO in recent years, now you have access to many of the places that used to be restricted by your character's level.  In other words, you can have a low-level hero travel to the [[Rikti War Zone]] or to [[Founders Falls]] or even to the revamped [[Dark Astoria]].

But that doesn't necessarily mean that you can just set down anywhere and work on comic material.
Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=125.0 Let us know!]

For instance, you could find the perfect place for your character's scene in [[Croatoa]] when suddenly you're attacked by the [[Cabal]].  You're defeated before you even realize what happened to you.  You go to the hospital, and you try to get back to that part of the city when you're attacked by yet another opponent and sent right back the hospital.  It can get very frustrating trying over and over and over again just to get some material in a place where you're simply not powerful enough to be there.

On the other hand, if you're there with a high-powered character, not only will you be able to easily withstand any attacks made on you, but for the most part those non-player combatants will ignore you unless you do something to provoke them.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 04:12, 4 September 2016 (PDT) )''

Unless you have to use material from places such as the tutorial, where everyone is at level one, it's always best to give your character some experience and have them level up a bit before using it for comic book material.  You don't have to be "more powerful than a locomotive", but it certainly helps to be more powerful than that area's NPCs.

'''Shoving A Stake Into The Heart Of The Spambots'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Those of you who have been keeping track of the news know about our endless battle against the dirty, filthy, amoral spammers and their bots.  They have made life for us struggling admins very miserable for too many months.  They forced us to invoke the nuclear option when it came to our MediaWiki resource, and then, when we launched our [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php forum], they made life miserable for this admin there as well.

But at least we have a few tools at our disposal with the forum.  We can blanket-ban their stolen IP addresses.  Whole IP ranges have been blocked and several thousand phony accounts created by the disgusting spammers have been purged from our rolls.

Thoughts? Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
But they continued to plague us. Just when we would think they got the message and would leave us alone, they'd carpet bomb us again with new waves of enrollments.

Then something funny happened.  One little change in the options slammed on the brakes.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 11:19, 4 July 2012 (UTC) )''
Now all new user registrations have to actually confirm their registration through their email.  And since spammers don't use their real email addresses, there is no way they can get around this!

Game over.

===BattlerockX 23:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC)===
Yes, they continue to try, but they can't automate their way past this hurdle.
'''Soak In The Summer Event!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

A [http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?p=4286185#post4286185 recent announcement by the City of Heroes developers] has the first-ever '''[http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Summer_Event Summer Event]''' kicking off two weeks earlier than expected.
Hopefully they will finally get the hint. Their filthy kind are not wanted or welcomed here.

For game-players, this means an earlier opportunity to enjoy brand-new content for a limited period of time.  A great way to team-up, make new friends, get new badges, and enjoy something different from the usual array of contacts and missions.

But for comic creators, this is also a limited opportunity to get new characters and settings for your costumes.  Much like the Winter Event, the Summer Event gives you access to areas that you cannot normally find either in-game or in Mission Architect.  Looking for that special setting for your comic?  This is the time and the place for it.

Take full advantage of this event and get as much material from it as you can. Replay the missions over and over again if possible. Get screen images from multiple angles. Be creative! Be curious! Have fun!
Thoughts? Ideas? Feedback? Questions? Any tips you would like to share? [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=125.0 Let us know!]

But whatever you do, don't delay, because once the event is done, you'll have to wait a whole year before you can do it again.

Remember, when it comes to getting material for your comics, it's always better to have too much material than to not have enough.

'''June Heat'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Well apparently the dirty filthy spammers felt a little left out here, because they decided to hit our forum with a vengeance these past few days.  While it has been very frustrating for your hard-working admin, I have to remind myself that they're actually doing me a favor, because when they bombard us, they're also letting us know which IP addresses to block, and we don't just block one or two IP addresses at a time.  We block whole segments!

Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
So every time they hit us, we know which more IP addresses have been infested with their garbage, and those IP ranges get added to our block list.

It also helps that we have a resource called CleanTalk that lets us identify which IP addresses have been used by the filthy spammers.  So those that have been previously flagged as spammers in other Wiki resources are listed there, and we can then block those IP ranges accordingly.  They even tell us who owns those IP ranges, so we know they come from China, Japan, and Russia.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 23:21, 26 June 2012 (UTC) )''
Sorry spammers, but this resource is for US, not for you!

Speaking of the forum, it appears last month's news article [[Template:WikiNews#BattlerockX_15:20.2C_18_May_2016_.28PDT.29|about the faux comic covers]] struck a cord with at least one forum member.  Well, at the very least we welcome the feedback, even if they have some disagreement with what is being said.  If you want to check out the discussion, [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=125.msg205#msg205 feel free to do so here], and maybe if you want to join in the conversation you can sign up and add your thoughts to the subject.

Just as long as you're not a dirty filthy spammer, that is.

'''Anti-Heroes and Anti-Villains'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators...
Thoughts?  Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=125.0 Let us know!]

Sometimes heroes and villains are not as noble or nefarious as they traditionally should be.  Sometimes, when developing your characters, you need to break the traditional mold to make your characters stand out.

For instance, instead of your protagonist being a traditional good-guy or good-girl, he or she could be an '''anti-hero'''.  Someone whose motives are far from pure.  It could be a corrupt cop, an alcoholic detective, the proverbial "hooker with a heart of gold", or the scoundrel privateer.  They're not going to get statues made in their honor or get the front-page headlines one would be proud of, but they would get the job done.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 09:41, 12 June 2016 (PDT) )''

Here in the City of Comic Creators, the some examples of anti-heroes are seen in "[[Cerulean Bolt]]", "[[Death Head Hero]]", and "[[Master-Minding My Own Business]]".
===BattlerockX 15:20, 18 May 2016 (PDT)===
'''Faux Cover vs Fan-Made Comics'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Likewise, your antagonist doesn't have to be evil incarnate or "bad to the bone".  Sometimes the best villains are '''anti-villains'''.
Sometimes a creative MMO player will come up with what looks like the start of a really nice fan-made comic.

Much like an anti-hero, an anti-villain is someone who isn't purely "evil".  Often there's a reason for them to do what they do, and they rationalize their actions as fulfilling some higher goal.  It could be a warrior seeking a "worthy adversary", the overly-passionate patriot driven to extremes, a "professional assassin", or someone that is a villain because they are "declared" so.
And you say to yourself "Hey, this looks interesting!  Can't wait to read it!"

The best, and probably most surreal, example of an anti-villain is the vending machine in "[[Battle Bovine]]".  The character [[Simon Barrister]] in "[[Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight]]" is a good example of the "professional" anti-villain.  In the [http://www.cityofheroes.com City of Heroes MMO] itself, the character of [[Ghost Widow]] ends up being more of an anti-villain when you explore her past.
Only you can't, because no such comic really exists.

And much like the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Alignment_System Alignment System in the MMO], a character can go from "hero" to "anti-hero" to "anti-villain" to "villain" and back again.
The creative player only came up with a faux comic cover instead of a full-blown comic.

While anti-heroes and anti-villains can make your characters seem more "human", one needs to be careful in making their heroes too much of a "scoundrel" or their villains to be too "sympathetic", as it can also result in turning off your potential readers.  Remember that a morality tale between "good" and "evil" can be lost when your story no longer sees a line between the two.
While coming up with a faux cover looks nice and shows creativity, it doesn't even begin to compare with the work that goes into a complete publication.

But rather than knock the creative player for only doing a cover, encourage them to take it to the next level.  Let them know that you like what you see and that you can't wait to read the finished product.

[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

We've made a few modest changes to the Wiki website.
===BattlerockX 18:36, 5 April 2016 (PDT)===

You may have noticed the addition to [http://www.thecaperadio.com The Cape Radio] to our sidebar.  We hope you'll enjoy the Cape Radio's wide variety of music and in-game themed content.
'''Membership Has Its Privileges'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

We've also increased the maximum file size for uploaded programs.  Higher-quality comics, such as the once that utilize 3D graphics, require more space than originally anticipated.  Because of this, we've increased the maximum file size to 30MB.  Hopefully this will encourage more comic creators to come aboard and archive their comics here for others to enjoy.
One of the things about being a member of the City of Comic Creators is that you have access to things that most people don't have.

For starters, members have editing rights to the Wiki.  This allows members to create pages to help promote their comics and to expand on their characters.  Of course, they still have to register an account and request access.

Thoughts? Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share? [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
Then there's the forum. Most people can access the forum ''(unless they're flagged as a spammer)'' and post comments and ask questions, but CCC members have access to a special section. There they can talk part in discussions concerning policy and even ask for and get help from other comic creators.

Our resources are valuable tools for comic creators, and we do our best to protect them from spammers.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 04:36, 13 June 2012 (UTC) )''
Of course, if you're just a fan of our comics, you're still welcome to take part in most of other discussions... including talking about this very article.

'''Upcoming Events'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

There's been a lot going on both in the City of Heroes MMO and here with the City of Comic Creators.

'''[http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/game_updates/issue_23/overview.php "Where Shadows Lie"]''' - With the release of '''"Issue 23"''', there are plenty of new areas to travel and explore, including the new "Night Ward" zone.  There are new trials, the conclusion to the whole "Praetorian" storyline, and "free" characters can now join [[supergroup|supergroups]].  Plenty of new content for comic creators to use.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 18:36, 5 April 2016 (PDT) )''

'''[[City of Comic Creators Compendium|CCC JAM]]''' - Unfortunately some real-world issues got in the way of releasing the latest Compendium issue, but hopefully we will have the issue ready to go shortly.  Stay tuned here for updates.
===BattlerockX 16:23, 8 March 2016 (PST)===

'''[http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/events/_this_summer_city_of.php "The Summer Blockbuster Event"]''' - With the new "Summer Event" coming up in July, this will give comic creators still more original content to work with.  As with other seasonal events, the best suggestion is to take full advantage of this new content when possible, because once it's over with, you'll have to wait a year before it comes back around.
'''A Break? Or Did They Get The Hint?'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

'''[[Archive Project]]''' - Work continues on the effort to recover, restore, and preserve fan-made comics for posterity. '''"[[The Omniscient Sentinel]]"''' will be added soon, along with a re-edited version of '''[[Battle Bovine|"Battle Bovine" #12]]''' thanks to an all-new cover made for the issue.
Just a quick update...

Things are starting to quiet down with the spammers over on the forum.  There have been a few days where it seems like the spammers have gotten the point that they are not welcomed here.  Either that or they've ran out of IP addresses that haven't already been blocked.

Keep checking here for more news when it becomes available.
I really hope that's the case.  It's very tiring to keep coming back and blocking the spammers and their IP addresses.  I'd rather be spending that time doing a few dozen other more interesting and more beneficial things.  Like doing my taxes.  Or cleaning the bathroom.  Or working on my comics.

Seriously.  Spammers and their spam-bots are not wanted, needed, or welcomed here.  This is not their forum.  It's ours.  It's that simple.

We want to wish a warm City of Heroes greeting to all listeners of '''[http://www.thecaperadio.com The Cape Radio]'''.  They have recently started airing commercials for the City of Comic Creators, and in return you will be seeing ads for The Cape Radio in our publications.

For those who do not know, The Cape Radio considers itself the finest radio station based on activity in the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Servers Virtue Server].  But in truth, it is probably the best radio station serving the whole City of Heroes MMO.  And that's no exaggeration, because The Cape Radio operates 24/7/365, providing a wide range of music as well as in-game-themed material, from [[:Category:Businesses|store ads]] to supergroup promotions, and even hosting live special events.

'''Changes Ahead!!!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Comic fans should also remember that The Cape Radio was promoted in its early years by Mike Shaw, the author of '''"[[The Wisecracker]]"''' series.
There are going to be a few modest changes to some of the features here on the Wiki Resource.

We here in the City of Comic Creators are proud to be working with the folks at The Cape Radio for our mutual gain, and we welcome all Cape listeners to check out the dozens of different comics that have been created over the years as a way to further supplement their City of Heroes Freedom experience.
First of all, the discussion threads will now [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php point to our forum] instead of the "Talk" section.  The chief reason is because we had to neuter editing the Wiki because of the spammers, and since we have a forum with greater control over neutering the spammers, this is a better option for everyone.  Except for the spammers, of course.  They can rot in hell.

Second, you may have noticed that the [[Template:FeaturedArticle|Featured Article]] section has been a little stagnant.  Actually it's been stagnant for most of last year.  Back when we had several comics being released at any given time and a whole plethora of Archive Project releases, it was good to highlight the best of these comics.  But then real world issues popped up with a lot of creators, and ideas got pushed back, and the segment got forgotten.

So instead of focusing on comic articles, we're going to be including tips and terminology related to both MMORPGS and comics. And, again, this will have its own [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=126.0 discussion thread in the forum], so you can relay your thoughts and suggestions there.

And, of course, feel free to chime in on some of the other discussions there.

'''Judging A Comic By Its Cover'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators...

The old saying is that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.
''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] ([[User talk:BattlerockX|talk]]) 16:00, 5 February 2016 (PST) )''

Unfortunately, when it comes to comic books, people do precisely that.  Many a great comic story has been ignored simply because the potential reader wasn't brought in by the cover.  Likewise, people could be brought in by a shocking cover only to find a story that wouldn't even be worth the paper it was printed on.

Working on the cover should be just as important as the comic story itself. That's why mainstream publishers will often ask other artists to dedicate their time on designing the cover while the series team is busy working on the issue itself.  Sometimes they'll even bring in a big-name artist like Alex Ross to design an elaborate cover for an otherwise mundane issue.
===BattlerockX 13:23, 16 January 2016 (PST)===
'''Welcome to the New Year!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Traditionally, your cover would serve as the sum representation of the issue. If there's a scene that stands out above anything else in the issue, then that is what should be on the cover.
Just wanted to drop off a quick note saying welcome to 2016! Hope everyone had a good holiday season.

Sometimes, though, you have come up with an image that is not in the issue itself.  An image that is done primarily to draw the reader in.  It could be for shock value or it could be for curiosity.  Either way, the key to doing a cover like that is it has to involve something with the characters themselves.

Never forget that the cover is the comic book's best form of advertising.  If it doesn't get the attention of the reader, then no other form of advertising will.

'''Comic Milestones'''
'''Forum Tested, Spammers Blocked'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Let's talk comic book milestones.
Not too long ago we launched our [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php new forum], which allows you to take part in discussions and gives us the means to give CCC members write and edit powers in the Wiki.

Much like marriages, comic book series have significant milestones that are often celebrated.  While mainstream publishers have major titles that have issue numbers in the hundreds, it should be noted that most comic series barely make it to the first comic milestone, which is issue '''#25'''.
Then, of course, the spammers and their spam-bots discovered the forum, and they attacked it mercilessly.

In both monthly incarnations of the official '''[[City of Heroes|"City of Heroes" comic series]]''', their series would end long before reaching that first milestoneThe [[Blue King Studios]] incarnation ended at issue '''#12''', and [[Top Cow|Top Cow's]] version ended right at issue '''#20'''.
Unfortunately for them, our forum has a few tools that the Wiki doesn't.  Such as being able to trace back the IP address the spammers use and find out where they are from, and blocking not only their accounts, but also their IP addressesAnd not just one IP address at a time, but a whole range of IP numbers.  And then we delete their accounts and their spam messages.

This seemingly high bar for reaching the first milestone is especially apparent when it comes to fan-made comics, as many comic creators will lose interest after a handful of issues.  The time, energy, and effort needed to sustain these series beyond those first few issues is simply not there.
So now the spammers from Russia are finding out the hard way when they try to visit this site that their IP addresses are blocked, and they get the following message back in Russian:

But there are those that do survive to that first milestone, and often they will make that milestone count.
'''THIS IS OUR FORUM, NOT YOURS!'''

For instance, in the '''"[[Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight]]"''' series, '''Issue #25''' not only was connected back to the very first issue, but it marked a significant change in the life of [[Galatea Powers]] as it served as the conclusion to the three-part '''[[Galatea Dawning (GotD)|"Galatea Dawning" storyline]]'''.  Not only did it wrap up the storyline, but the series creator also included a special behind-the-scenes look at the changes that were made to the characterLikewise, '''"[[GGRRR]]"''' recently celebrated their '''25th Issue''' with a pivotal and emotional story that affected the whole team in their own ways.
Yes, it seems harsh, but these are the folks that made running a resource like ours a nightmareIt's a relief to finally be able to lock them out without locking everyone else out.

The first four milestones for a comic series are Issues '''#25''', '''50''', '''75''', and '''100'''.  After issue #100, the next milestones are often measured in fifty-issue increments.
Considering that it takes slightly more than two years for a monthly series to just make it to each of the first four milestones, you can really appreciate the dedication that is put into a series that lasts for that long.  It also serves to reflect the support the publisher has not only for the series, but also for the creative team that keep interest in the series going to that milestone... and beyond.

'''Know your CoH History!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

With the presence of people with extra-normal abilities - be they from magic, mutation, science, technology, aliens, or just plain human excellence - you cannot help but imagine that it would have an effect on society. This is clearly seen in [[Paragon City]], where there are plenty of hero-themed businesses and restaurants.

'''Annoying Ads In Comics'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

But such a presence would also have an affect on history.
There is an interesting question concerning comics over at our forum.  Only this time it's not about fan-made comics.  Instead we're talking about mainstream comic publishers and the recent decision by DC Comics to run half-page ads along with their story panels.

For instance, how do you think the Cold War would have turned out if there were superhuman beings involved? Would they stop things from escalating?  Or would they only make things worse?
Of course the decision to place ads in fan-made comics is entirely up to the creators themselves, and this resource has plenty of [[:Category:Comic_Advertisements|special ads]] to help, but, again, we're talking about one of the "Big Two" comic publishers. A publisher owned by a major multi-conglomerate corporation, no less!

Find out what happened in one such instance by checking out the '''"[[Finland Crisis]]"''', a pivotal moment for superheroes and for international relations established as canon by the developers of the City of Heroes MMO.
So, what do you think on the subject?  For or against?  [http://mmocomicindex.com/mmocomicindex/forum/index.php?topic=10.0 Cast your vote in the poll and leave your thoughts in the forum.]  We even have an example of one of the ads there in case you've been either getting them digitally or if you don't normally read comics.

'''Meet the FBSA'''
'''Some Site Updates'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

You've heard of the FBI.  You've heard of the DEA, CIA, NSA, ICE, FEMA, SWAT, ATF, and even NCIS.
Well some serious changes have been going on behind the scenes here at this humble little resource of ours.

But what about the FBSA? If you are a hero in [[Paragon City]], then it is probably the most important government acronym that you should remember.
We've transitioned over to the new server and everything seems to be working okay. We've also straightened out some of the links, especially for the [[Champions Online MMO|Champions Online Wiki]].  There are still some of the older links that point to the old COH Comic Index site, but we're slowly moving those. Give us time on these, okay?

The FBSA is short for the '''[[Federal Bureau for Super-powered Affairs]]''' and it is the federal agency that not only monitors superhero activity, but it also is the organization that gives registered heroes their official authority to act.
You may have noticed that we've included a forum.  Not everyone in the City of Comic Creators have ''(or want)'' access to Facebook, so they've been missing out on our updates there.  Plus, remember how we had locked away all the access to create and edit our resource for most of you?  Well now we have a means for you to request access so you can contribute to our resource.  ''(That part is still something we are hammering the details out.)''

The FBSA works in cooperation with the Paragon City government, and is divided between several specialty divisions based on the origin categories of one's abilities.  Originally your first missions in Paragon City came from these divisions, but the recent turmoil in [[Galaxy City]] have changed everything.  Still, these contacts and thier divisions are still around in the city and still are helping out when possible.
But even if you don't qualify for access, the forum will still be a great place for you to ask questions and offer suggestions and even give feedback on the comics found here.

Find out who is a member of the FBSA and its various divisions by visiting their [[FBSA|official entry]].
Keep in mind that we will still go after spammers just like we are doing with the Wiki resource, and we do monitor the forums. So behave!

Oh, and this is still in "Beta", so there may be some changes later on that will affect the content in the forums.

And to update from last week's news, we are in the process of finishing up '''Issue #6''' of the '''[[City of Comic Creators Compendium]]''' and should have that out shortly. '''Stay tuned!!!'''

'''More Comics Saved!'''
'''HOT News For July - Part 2!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

We're pleased to announce that several new entries have been added to the [[Archive Project]], including two series originally listed as [[:Category:Missing_in_Action|"Missing In Action"]]. These series are:
Following our [[Template:WikiNews#BattlerockX_13:35.2C_4_July_2015_.28MDT.29|HOT News]] for the month, we have two updates.

* '''[[City of Fading Light]]'''
First, the transition to the new server is now complete.  You should notice a few minor changes, but most of the big changes will be on our end as admins.  A few more toys to play with, and more ways to make things better for us.

* '''[[Death Head Hero]]'''
The old anti-SPAM safeguards are still in effect, though, so only verified comic creators have creation and editing powers.  Sorry, but we need to keep the spammers and their bots at bay, and this is the only way to do it right now.

* '''[[The Expendables]]''' ''(No, not connected to the major motion picture starring every great action hero that ever lived.)''
The other big news... Paragon Chat, aka SOON(TM), '''is now online!'''

* '''[[Super Gobbles Adventures]]''' ''(Originally MIA)''
Yes, you can now return to Paragon City and hang out with your friends, both real and NPC.  You can create your character just like you did with Titan Icon and you can keep those characters, which was something you really couldn't do with Icon unless you saved the file and then re-loaded it.  ''(Trust me, it was very frustrating.)''

* '''[[Y.Freeza|The Ultimate Victorious Y.Freeza]]''' ''(Originally MIA)''
Now... few things.

You need to have a Titan Network account to use Paragon Chat.  It's not that hard to do, and it's free, but if you don't have one already, then it could take some time before it translates into a Paragon Chat account.

Keep checking in as we add more comics of old for you to enjoy!
Second... right now your choice of travel is restricted to running and... runningBe patient and hopefully you'll be able to fly around like you could with Titan Icon.

In other news, I am happy to report that work is progressing on '''Issue #6''' of the '''[[City of Comic Creators Compendium]]'''. We've hit a few speed bumps along the way, but we should have the new "Jam" issue soonStay tuned for more details!!!

'''More Recovery Ahead!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Things have been busy here in the Wiki.

First up, our entry on [[Restaurants]] was good, but it needed to be expanded a bitAfter all, [[Paragon City]] is not the only place where you can get something to eat.  The [[Rogue Isles]] have a few "good" places to sit down and enjoy... something.  And [[Praetoria]] may be a meritocracy, but that doesn't mean that they don't have a few eateries.  So we now have entries for all three locations.  ''(Don't bother asking about [[First Ward]].  [[Seers|You are not supposed to think about First Ward.]])''
Third, you will need either i23 or i24Beta version of the gameIf you look hard enough over at Titan Network, you should find the means to download it.

Plus we have several new entries to the [[Archive Project]], including a new entry for all of the specials created by [[ChaseArcanum]], the one-shot entry for Ascendant's "[[Quiver (series)|Quiver]]", and the two entries by Comic Contest winner [[8baller]]We also have several other series that will soon be added to the Archive Project, including a few that were never listed as [[:Category:Missing_in_Action|Missing In Action]].
And fourth, to make things clear... this is not the MMO!  The City of Heroes MMO is still dead.  "The City" still exists thanks to Paragon Chat... and, of course, the City of Comic Creators.  But Paragon Chat is a chat program.  You can't fight bad guys.  You can't save the day.  You can, however, dress the part and show off your creation skills with othersAnd maybe later on there might be something more, but for now you can revel in the camaraderie of your friends and maybe even take part in a costume contest or two just out of nostalgia.

Slowly but surely, those comics from days gone by are being found and they're being recovered and archived for you to enjoy.
For more information about Paragon Chat, [http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10977.0.html check out this FAAQ from Titan Network].

'''HOT News For July'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

You know where the [[Paragon City Police Department|police department]] is in [[Paragon City]].  They're telling you to take it to the courthouse.  You know where the [[Zigursky Penitentiary|jail]] is as well, but you hope it doesn't get that far.
Welcome to July, the second-half of 2015!

So where is the courthouse in Paragon City?
July is pretty hot, but not because of comic news.

Well worry no more, because our ever-curious Comic Creators have finally set up where you have to go to deal with those annoying tickets, not to mention where you would testify about those bad guys you helped to bring down.
We have two important things to talk about.

Check out our new entry for the '''[[Judicial Center]]'''.
First of all, you may remember we talked about transitioning over to a new server.  That will happen later this month, so things may get a little hairy because of it.  There's a lot that will be going on behind-the-scenes that the admins ''(including yours truly)'' have to worry about during the transition.

Wait, you want to know about the justice system in the [[Rogue Isles]]?  You're kidding, right?  That's what the Arbiters are for. And at least they're a bit better than the [[Praetoria|Praetorian system]]!
Please bear with us during that time, and check back here for updates when they are available.

But, more importantly, is the debut of something rather big, especially for those of us from "The City".

Thoughts? Ideas?  Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
It's no secret that most of the City of Comic Creators members used to be from the [[City of Heroes MMO]] before it was shut down in December of 2012. Since then, some of us have been getting by either by focusing on other MMO games like [[Champions Online MMO|Champions Online]] or through a little magic involving [http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/board,174.0.html Titan Icon] and Demorecording.  The latter has helped us continue those stories from "The City", but it hasn't been easy, because the people that used to enjoy our comics have felt left out.

That will come to an end soon.  And by "soon", I mean '''"Soon(TM)"'''.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 23:39, 20 March 2012 (UTC) )''
Paragon Chat, aka "Soon(TM)", is a way for former "City" residents to once again connect with their friends in Paragon City.  Much like Titan Icon, Paragon Chat uses the last available version of the MMO '''(Issue 24 Beta)''' installed on your computer, but connects to a separate XMPP system.  In other words, it turns the MMO into a virtual chat program.

The MMO is still "dead".  Your characters will just be chat avatars, being able to move about and converse with anyone else logged in, but there will be no combat, no missions, no lives to save or ruin.

===BattlerockX 18:06, 13 March 2012 (UTC)===
But you can still create a hero or villain, with all of the costume pieces you used to enjoy.  You can visit all of the places you used to go to, even some of the places that were new to I24.  You'll be able to meet up with your friends and meet new ones.
'''A Little Housekeeping'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

We've been a little busy here at the Comic Index trying to make our resources easier to access for both the new and experienced comic creators.
And for comic creators such as myself, it's an opportunity to get new material and bring attention back to what we are good at doing... fan-made comics!

For instance, we've gone through the [[:Category:Comic Advertisements|Comic Ads]] and moved the outdated ones to a [[:Category:Old Advertisements|new section]] of the WikiThis will ensure that comic creators will have access to the most recent ads for use in their issues.
Paragon Chat is supposed to go live on 7/7, and for more information on this, you can check out the folks [http://www.cohtitan.com/forum/index.php/topic,10977.0.html?PHPSESSID=3j53kmctc1hrml5tc8mmu7rum1 at the Titan Network], home of the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page Paragon Wiki].

We've also created a [[:Category:Comic Material|special section]] for additional comic material, such as the logos for Paragon Studios and City of Heroes.  These are logos that you can include in your comics to show that it is a fan-made derivation of the MMO.
Hopefully we'll see you back in "The City"!

'''Quick Update On Our Friends At The Cape Radio'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

===BattlerockX 13:53, 6 March 2012 (UTC)===
Our apologies for not keeping up with the news.  Normally we have at least one news report per month, and we accidentally let May go by quietly.  We'll try to do better in the future.

'''Taking Care of Business'''
We have a quick update concerning our friends over at [[The Cape Radio]].  Once upon a time they were the premiere player-run radio station for [[City of Heroes MMO|City of Heroes]] players, especially those on the Virtue Server.  But with our beloved "City" gone as an MMO ''(but still alive thanks to our comics)'', The Cape Radio had to expand to other MMO universes.  First two universes, then three.
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

So... know any good eats in [[Paragon City]]?
[http://www.thecaperadio.com/about/announcements.php#23 And now they're all over the place.]

Well thankfully we here in the City of Comic Creators have been a little busy putting together a list of places for you to get a burger or a cup of coffeeBecause living in the "City of Heroes" is more than just fighting bad guys and getting "inf"... you sometimes have to LIVE in the city as well.
Yes, The Cape Radio is no longer just dedicated to a couple of MMO gamesNow they're into everything.

''(In case you're wondering, that is a helpful little hint for comic creators.)''
So now it doesn't matter if you're playing Star Trek Online or Champions Online or Minecraft or DC Universe Online or World of Warcraft or even testing the Pre-Alpha Valiance Online.  The Cape Radio has something for you.

We have a list of [[Restaurants|restaurants]] for you to check out that you can find both in-game as well as places that only exist in the comics.
[http://www.thecaperadio.com/ The Cape Radio] has your back.

We've also created a new category for general [[:Category:Businesses|businesses]] in the COH Multiverse, because not every shop is a part of a huge multinational corporation determined to take over the world.  '''(Well, not yet anyway...)'''  Feel free to check out the new entries, and if you know of any other businesses or restaurants in [[Paragon City]], [[Praetoria]], or the [[Rogue Isles]], either let us know or add them in.

'''In-Story Advertising'''
'''Short But Sweet Update'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]
The update this month will be somewhat short but sweet.

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators...
The spammers still try to worm their way into our resource, but thanks to our [[Template:WikiNews#BattlerockX_20:45.2C_13_February_2015_.28MST.29|"nuclear" option]], they can only continue to generate accounts and nothing more.  Of course it means our "username" list grows larger and larger every day.

Are you looking to stick on the back page of your comic and you're tired of using the [[:Category:Going Rogue 08-17|same ads promoting the MMO]]?
But... that may also be going away.

How about creating one of your own?
We are in the process of switching providers.  This is a long and protracted process for us for many reasons, with the biggest being the difficulty in transferring the wiki material over to the new provider.

Maybe there's a favorite store or restaurant that your character likes to visitBy using a quick [[screenshot]] of the front of the business, you can create a quick ad promoting the business.  It doesn't have to be splashy.  In fact if you look at your local coupon circulars or newspaper ads promoting businesses in your area, you'll find that they're very simple.  Just come up with a quick description of the business, include the screenshot image, and put it all in front of a simple one-color background.
What we may end up having to do is starting the resource from scratch and then porting over as much content as possibleWhat that means is that those thousand and thousands of bot-generated usernames would all disappear... along with the few valid users that use this resource as it is meant to.  That means re-enrolling with new passwords and getting the new user categories re-established so people can go back to contributing to the resource.  It's not something we want to do, but that is something that may happen with this transition.

Presto! Instant in-story advertisement!
Keep checking this section for updates when they become available.

For more ads, including some in-story ads already available for use, check out the [[:Category:Comic Advertisements|Comic Advertisements]] section easily found on the Main Page under '''Comic Help'''.

[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]
It's been almost a month since we [[Template:WikiNews#BattlerockX_20:45.2C_13_February_2015_.28MST.29|used the "nuclear" option]] against the spammers and their bots, locking out all editing and creating rights to non-comic creators.

We would like to take this time to welcome a new comic creator and a new member to the City of Comic Creators.
As one of the admins that spent countless hours having to continually watch this resource and try to play whack-a-bot with the spammers ''(and losing)'', it is a breath of fresh air to not have to worry anymore about them perverting our resource.

'''[[User:Majordeej|Major Deej]]''' is the author of '''"The New Allied Fighters"''' seriesA retired Navy veteran ''(<u>thank you</u> for your service)'', the Major took his childhood love of comics, superheroes, and Saturday Morning cartoons and turned it into City of Heroes gameplay, Mission Architect stories, and, now, into his own comic book.
The spammers haven't stopped trying, though.  They are still trying to take over this resourceOnly this time they are on the losing side.

Keep checking here at COH Comic Index for more on '''"The New Allied Fighters"'''.
At some point we will set up a method for us to recognize new comic creators and give them the means to contribute to this resource, but for now it's still on a case-by-case basis.

With that, let's get back to comics...

Southern California Public Radio recently did an article about the resurrected Valiant Comics and their new CEO, Dinesh Shamdasani.  Valiant was originally created by former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter, and they were a serious challenger against the "Big Two" of Marvel and DC in the 90's.  But then they got swept up in the comic bubble and eventually went broke.  Shamdasani bought the rights and resurrected the comics in 2012, starting their well-known characters from scratch.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 12:25, 21 February 2012 (UTC) )''
There was something that Shamdasani said in the article that stood out that I want to share with you.

'''''"We have the freedom to not have to follow in the wake of an upcoming media tie-in, like a big movie or video game, and we don't have to serve larger licensing goals. We can simply just make great comics."'''''

===BattlerockX 04:14, 15 February 2012 (UTC)===
That's something that we, the fan-made comic creators, have in common with the folks at Valiant.  Sure, our comics can help promote an MMO like we did with City of Heroes, or like we would for Champions Online, or DC Universe Online, or Star Trek Online.  But we're not there just to be commercials.  We're not in this to promote a toy line or hype up some major motion picture.  We're in this because we like making comics, and we hope you're here because you like to read comics.
'''Archive Project Update'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

For those who haven't checked in lately, the [[Archive Project]] has just recovered Issues 15-29 of "[[The Forever Men]]" series.  That's fifteen more comics added to dozens of comic issues that have been recovered and archived here for posterity.
'''[http://www.scpr.org/programs/the-frame/2015/03/03/41788/valiant-ceo-wants-to-simply-just-make-great-comics/ Click here to check out the SCPR article.]'''

Unfortunately, the first fourteen issues of the series are still considered missing, so the series itself will be the first to be listed as both part of the "Archive Project" and still "Missing In Action".
There has also been an update on "[[Battle Bovine]]" series, which was previously recovered.  Issues 11 and 12 were considered "unfinished", which was why both "cover" images were blank.  This gave the creator time to whip up a new cover for Issue #11, which he did as an homage to a certain "Giant Sized" comic series, which was appropriate given the main villain of the story.  Issue #11 has since been re-formatted with the new cover and has been updated.
As you can see, the Archive Project is an ongoing process, with lost comics being found, and archived issues being updated.

'''We Went Nuclear'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]
It is said that Friday the 13th was first considered an "unlucky day" because it was the day that the Knights Templar were taken down by the heavy-hand of King Phillip of France.  Scores of Knights Templar were arrested, tortured, tried, and executed for made-up crimes.

===BattlerockX 20:00, 10 January 2012 (UTC)===
Well, the self-appointed "knights" of spam that have besieged this resource are discovering that this is an unlucky day for them too.
'''Statesman - 1896-2012'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

We here at the City of Comic Creators are in mourning over the loss of Paragon City's legendary iconic hero, '''[[Statesman]]''', who [http://na.cityofheroes.com/en/news/news_archive/a_eulogy_for_statesman.php was reported dead on January 17th].
We, the administrators of this resource, have invoked the "nuclear" option when it comes to new members and their ability to create and edit entries here.

Statesman was the first superhero, starting off the new "Golden Age of Heroism".  It was his spirit and what he called his "inner will" that not only gave hope to a city originally devastated by the Great Depression of the 1930's, but also served as the inspiration for other heroesWe deeply extend our condolences to his surviving granddaughter, [[Ms. Liberty]].
Spammers have had a field day hiding behind fake proxys and concealed IP addresses, using bots to create dozens of member accounts every hour on the hour and then bombarding us with spam postsAnd this administrator has been waging a losing war trying to take down every spam post that is put up and trying to block and ban every spammer account that applies.

And in the spirit of equal time, here now is the [[Rogue Isles]] response...
Today, Friday the 13th, that ends.

{|border="1" style= "background:pink"
From now on, regular users will no longer be able to create or edit entries, including their own user pages. They also will not be able to take part in discussionsOnly those we ''(the administrators)'' have verified to be legitimate comic creators will have this ability.
|'''''We're GLAD that Statesman is dead!  He was an old man that coasted on whatever laurels were wrongly handed to him!  Did he rebuild a nation shattered by corruption and cronyism?  NO!  [[Lord Recluse]] did!  Statesman would just stand there just like all of those stupid giant statues that litter [[Paragon City]] and pretend that he's doing something just by being there!  And the stupid, fawning, pathetic morons of Paragon City would idolize him for it! Whoever did it just did this world a huge favorThe only thing that we're upset about is that we weren't the ones to put the final bullet into his stupid shovel-mask!  We'd like to find this killer, give him a beer, and then take him out for depriving us of our victory.'''''
|}

And now in the spirit of ''more-''equal time, here is the [[Praetoria|Praetorian]] response...
We are currently working on a way to formalize this process for future members, so for right now the verification will be on a case-by-case basis.  Every current comic creator that has an account here is being moved to "Verified" status so they can continue to contribute to the resource. Operative words being <u>"comic creator"</u>. If you have an account here and you haven't come up with a fan-made comic in the past, you better do so.

{|border="1" style="background:yellow"
We did not want to go this route.  We wanted this resource to be open for all to enjoyBut the spammers really have left us with no choice.  This is our resource, not theirs.  This is a resource for creators and readers of fan-made comics, not a dumping ground for mass-marketers.
|''[[Emperor Cole]] is a wonderful man in any incarnation and in any universe.  We are saddened on the news that any version of our dear leader has passed, even if such incarnation was a clearly inferior version compared to the sun that is Emperor Cole.  We invite those in Paragon City that are yearning for leadership in this mournful absence to turn to our beloved Emperor Cole for solaceOur [[Seers]] would welcome such people with the same loving arms that Emperor Cole gave us.''

Keep checking back here for more about the death of Statesman and how Paragon City will continue without him.

'''Welcome to the New Year!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]
Welcome to 2015, everyone!

We're starting off the new year with an update on some of our previously-missing comics.  A total of seventeen comics series have been recovered through the '''[[Archive Project]]'''.  That's fifty-seven issues that have so far been collected and archived here for future readers to appreciate.
Sorry this entry is a little late, but this humble creator and admin has been busy here with the holidays and also with the pending debut of the new series '''[[Furia and the Guardians|"Furia and the Guardians"]]''', as well as a few other projects that I hope we can talk about soon.

Bear in mind that some of these series go back to the first few years of the City of Heroes MMO, some even before capes became an option! And while the quality may be less-than-optimal in some of those salvaged issues, they should still reflect the creativity and resourcefulness that existed at the time.
First things first... I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I hope my fellow creators used this opportunity to recharge your mental batteries so you can come up with new comics for the rest of us to enjoy.

Don't think for a moment that this is all for the Archive Project either.  The process of recovering [[:Category:Missing in Action|the rest of the missing comics]] will take a while, so please be patient and keep checking with the [[Archive Project]] page for updates.
One of the things we've started doing is a special '''[[PNN News Break]]''' series for those comics that are based in the world of the [[City of Heroes MMO]].  These are two-page teasers which set the stage for an up-coming comic series.  Although these have been running under the radar since the summer, we will start to include them in the [[New Releases]] section.

Plus, that's not all on our plate for this year. We're still working on the next [[City of Comic Creators Compendium|JAM]] issue, which depends a lot on the participants.  There's also a brand new "How To" series about [[How To: Create A Comic|how to create a comic]] that should help anyone interested in becoming a comic creator.
That brings us to our third issue... the ugly stench of spammers.

And with the launch of [http://www.cityofheroes.com City of Heroes Freedom] as a "Freemium" service this past September, several of our former comic creators have come back with a vengeance, ensuring that we have a new wave of comics for readers to enjoy along with the return of some old series. That's good news for us here at the CCC and great news for you, the readers.
As mentioned in our [[MMO_Comic_Index:Policy#Spam_Policy|Spam Policy]], we have no tolerance for Spam, which we define as being "the use of this website's resources either to advertise for third-party merchant services that do not involve the stated goal of this website or to use the resources as a reference page for unsolicited electronic advertisement through other services ''(i.e. electronic mail)''." This resource is monitored regularly for new registered users and for all additions and changes made to it, and recently we have been besieged by spammers attempting to co-opt this resource for their own purposes.

To that end, we ''(the admins)'' have made a few changes on the back-end that should hopefully make it difficult for spammers to continue to operate here.  That includes extending the length we block IP addresses from 24-hours to a whole year.

And there may very well be ''one more surprise yet to come''.  Keep checking here for details.
What that means is that if a spammer used that IP address to violate our Spam Policy, that IP address and the subsequent IP addresses connected to it are blocked from registration or making any kind of changes to the resource for a whole year.  This can be reversed on our end, but hopefully we won't have to do that too often.

This does seem a bit extreme, granted, but if you were the one having to go through entry after entry of Spam posts to remove them every other hour for every single day, you'd understand the kind of frustration we have had to deal with on this.

In all, 2012 could very well be a great year not only for the City of Heroes MMO, but also for supporters of fan-based comics!
Hopefully we won't have to make any other kinds of changes, but if we have to, we will let you know here.

Remember, this resource is for MMO-based fan-generated comics and related reference information, and '''<u>it</u> <u>is</u> <u>monitored</u>'''.

With the holiday season upon us, there is much for us to reflect upon and give thanks.

=== BattlerockX 23:47, 21 December 2011 (UTC) ===
We are certainly grateful for the fan-made comics that have been made and shared through this resource.  From "Future's Guardian" in the world of Champions Online to the 3D renderings of "The Crucible" in the world of the now-defunct City of Heroes.
'''The Archive Project: Saving the Fallen'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Previously we talked about the comic issues that disappearedWith the fall of websites such as Hypercomics and cohcomics, the efforts of many fan-made comic creators were lost in broken links and 404 error messages.
Even though "The City" was taken away from us two years ago this past December 1st, stories from "The City" continue through 3D renderings and through special programs like Titan Icon that allow us to use the last Beta version of the game programAnd, thankfully, more stories from "The City" will continue to come forward as we await the development and release of the so-called "Spiritual Successors".

[[File:Badge_ArchiveProject.png|left]]
Of course this would not be possible without both creators and readers, so we here at the City of Comic Creators extend our thanks to both the fan-made comic creators who keep the stories going, and also to the readers who have come to enjoy our tales and hopefully will look forward to what 2015 will bring.
Thankfully we are pleased to report that we are in the process of actually recovering many of the comics that were initially declared '''[[:Category:Missing in Action|"Missing in Action"]]'''.

Thanks to Taskforce UK, the source material for many of the comics have been recovered and are in the process of being converted into PDF documents so they can be archived for future readers to appreciate.  Some of these comics go back to the early years of City of Heroes, some even before capes were an option, never mind auras.
Thank you, everyone, for making 2014 a year of stories worth telling!

And now, once again, you can enjoy them.

More information about this will soon be found at the '''[[Archive Project]]''' page.

'''How Good Are Your Villains?'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

* '''[http://www.deviantart.com/download/275045523/gbp___holiday_wishes_2011_by_djmatt2-d4jr6hf.jpg Click here to view the one-page special.]'''
With this being the month of October, the traditional month of villains and all things "evil", I thought I'd give a few tips about villains.

And on behalf of the rest of the '''City of Comic Creators''', we wish you happy holidays!
The old saying is that a hero is only as good as their villains.  Unfortunately that hasn't always been the case.

If you take a look at some of the old animated cartoons of DC and Marvel heroes, you'll notice that most of the villains were genetic.  Outer space aliens or mobsters that pretty much are only there to be punching bags for the heroes.

Did you know that the original Lex Luthor was just a bald overweight guy named "Luthor"?  There was no complex backstory for "Luthor".  He was simply a "scientist" ''(which, at the time, were considered "evil")'' that wanted to stop Superman before the Man of Steel could "thwart his plans".  Eventually the character was developed into an arch-villain, complete with a rather complex backstory that linked him to Superman when they were both teens, and then gave him a reason to hate and despise Superman.

Thoughts? Ideas? Feedback? Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
Of course, for animated videos or even for live-action serials, you didn't have time to come up with complex backstories to explain why a villain did what they did. So the writers would simply use generic villains and plainer-than-bottled-water plots. Master-villains wouldn't be robbing the banks all the time, but your common criminal would. There's "always" some intergalactic conqueror looking to take over the planet that somehow could be thwarted by one superhero and a sidekick.

And even when you had some "rogues gallery" of villains to choose from, the villain-of-the-episode had something rather obvious about them that was connected to their name.  Remember Dick Tracy's criminals?  "Noodle-nose" would have a long and thin nose.  "Flat-head" actually had either a flattened head or a flat-top haircut.  "Elephant ears" would have really big ears.  But that's really all that differentiated them, wasn't it?

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 23:47, 21 December 2011 (UTC) )''
Remember that villains are characters too.  They don't always do "evil" things just because they're villains.  What motivates them to do what they do?  Do they have a grudge against the hero?  If so, why?  Who do they work for?  Why do they work for them?  What do they do when they're not doing "the wrong things"?

You don't have to come up with full bios for every henchmen or every low-level criminal, but certainly the "Big Bad Boss" ''(or "B3")'' and some of the villains you think should be more memorable deserve more than just a designation as "villain".

=== BattlerockX 14:58, 22 November 2011 (UTC) ===
In fact, the major comic publishers even go so far as to focus their attention on villains, especially around the month of OctoberIn doing so, the readers get to see things from the villain's perspective and also understand a little about why do what they do.
'''Remembering the Fallen'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

When fan-made comics were just starting, there were some very popular resources for creators to publish their works.

[[File:Badge_MIA.png|left]]
Unfortunately, the two most common resources, Hypercomics and COHComics, have since gone underAnd with them, the hard work and effort of those creative fans.

That is why we have come up with the '''Archive Project''', to offer a way for those works to be retrieved, restored, and made available for others to view as the previously were.

Many of the comics previously listed here are now under the category of [[:Category:Missing in Action|Missing in Action]]. Some were short one-shot specials, but others were whole series that are now inaccessible.
So the question is... are your villains ready for their solo series? Or are they just there to be token punching bags?  It's all up to you as creators to answer those questions.

Attempts are being made to locate some of the missing entries and restore them.  We have recently found the various issues made by [[The Spectacular Sparky]] and are trying to restore all of them.
In the meantime, if you're the author of one of these other comics now "MIA", or if you know another place where we can find these lost works, please get in touch with us and we will do our best to restore and archive them for future fans to appreciate in the way they used to be.

'''The Deletion Policy'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

===BattlerockX 06:15, 24 October 2011 (UTC)===
Just a quick update on last month's announced [[Deletion Policy]].
'''Pardon the digital sawdust'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

We've been busy here at the Comic Index, especially with the release of '''[http://www.cityofheroes.com City of Heroes Freedom]''' bringing in new players and returning creators.
We will be deleting the files that had been previously requested but were on hold pending the new policy.

One of the major changes involves our login procedures.  We've been trying to keep the Spam-bots to a minimum while at the same time allowing honest members to be able to make contributions to our database system when possible.  We think we've been able to find a happy medium with help from our good friends at the Paragon WikiWe specifically want to thank TonyV for his assistance in getting the CAPTCHA feature added.
We ask that all new requests comply with the policyIf you don't know what it is, then take the time and go over it.

We're also going to be making some more changes in the weeks to come as we try to get more exposure and more interest in fan-made comics.

Some of the recent additions:

* The [[:Category:Publisher|Publisher Category]] has been expanded and tweaked to include a wider listing of publishing companies, including legitimate publishers, spoof publishers, and even those professional publishing companies ''(i.e. [[Dark Horse Comics]])'' that have contributed to the world of City of Heroes comics.

* We have created new category for [[:Category:Location|locations]] to provide background information of various locations for comic creators.  For instance, the significance of [[Talos Island]] for one certain comic series.  Rather than to serve as a place for in-game tips, though, these entries will help provide key information for comic creators to use in developing their own stories, and for comic readers to further expand on the information provided in the comics.  These entries are not just limited to in-game locations either, but also provide background information on other worlds mentioned in those same comics.

* We've added a new link in the Navigation Menu to comics that we've backed up.  This is part of our ongoing '''Archive Project''' where we try to preserve these City of Heroes-related comics for future readers instead of having them disappear in a sea of dead links.

This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we have in store for you, so please keep checking in.

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators.

Ever publish an issue and realize that you made a mistake about it?
===BattlerockX 18:17, 3 August 2014 (MDT)===
'''Changing the “Delete” policy'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Maybe a speech balloon was pointed to the wrong character.  Maybe you put the caption "Lord Recluse" under a picture of Ghost WidowMaybe your story was riddled with spelling errors.  It happens even to the best of us.
Not too long ago there was a bit of an issue regarding the request to delete pagesA request was submitted to delete a page and then that person later protested its deletion and demanded its restoration, only to later request that we once again delete the page.

So you go in, make some changes, and then re-publish your comicSomeone comes back and says "Why do you want me to re-read this?  What did you do differently?"  Or maybe they want to know why an earlier version of the comic was deleted.
As administrators of this MediaWiki resource, it is our responsibility to make sure that the resource is used properlyThat means no SPAM, and it also means keeping the information relevant to the various MMO games and how they apply to the comics that are based in those MMO games.

For those that use the CCC Wiki site to archive their works (and we are encouraging creators to do just that), the best way to keep track of the changes made to the issue is to list them in the DISCUSSION tabs.
Wiki pages and other media information such as images and templates are meant to be available and referenced for as long as the resource exists.  They should not be considered temporary posts or some rough draft before being used by some other resource.

Here's how you do it...
Unless we are dealing with SPAM, the deletion of a page should only be considered a matter of last resort.  The person requesting it should also provide a specific reason why they are deleting it and should not expect to have it later restored.

After you re-upload your file, click on the DISCUSSION tab.  Then list the updates made between the previous versions and the one you just uploaded.  Be sure to include the time and date of your entry, preferably by using the four tilde marks ''(<nowiki>~~~~</nowiki>)'', which automatically insert the username and the time/date stamp.
With this in mind, we are updating our deletion policy to be as follows:

Then, even if you have deleted all of the previous versions of the comic file, you still have all of the notes about what has been changed so people can see how this has been improved.
1. If a resource page (including user pages), is considered to be in violation of the resource’s SPAM policy, then the page will be immediately deleted and the user’s account will be blocked.  The determination of whether such page violates the resource’s SPAM policy and the subsequent deletion are made by the administrators.

2. Other than the above-mentioned reason, the request to delete a page should only be a matter of last resort.  Do not request a deletion if you intend to re-edit a page or change the name of the page.  There are mechanisms in place to make changes or to rename the page in question.

3. To request a deletion, one must put the following template at the top of the page: <nowiki>{{Delete}}</nowiki>
You do not have to remove the rest of the information on the page.  In fact it would be best if you left the remaining data as is.

Thoughts? Ideas? Feedback?  Questions?  Any tips you would like to share?  [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
4. The person requesting the deletion must then provide a specific reason why they are making this request. The request reason must be made in the page’s Discussion section and include the username of the person requesting it and the reason why they are requesting it. Ideally the only person requesting the deletion of that page should be the original author; however special considerations may be taken into account.

Failure to provide a reason will result in the page continuing to exist on the server and may even be reverted to the most recent entry prior to the request.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 15:42, 9 October 2011 (UTC) )''
5. The determination of the validity of the deletion request and when it will be carried out is solely at the discretion of the administrators.  Ideally, deletion can occur within one-to-seven days of a valid request.

6. Deletion of a page by the administrators will include in the name and time/date stamp of the person requesting the deletion, as well as the reason provided.

===BattlerockX 14:37, 21 September 2011 (UTC)===
7. Requesting the restoration of a page or content that has been previously deleted should be equally rare.  Restoration is solely at the discretion of the administrators and should take into consideration the reason why the content was originally deleted.  Restoring content previously deleted for reasons that would be considered by most to be trivial (i.e. “I want to show this off to a friend and then you can delete it again”) will not be acceptable.
'''BEWARE OF CHANGES!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's another tip for comic creators.
8. Multiple deletion and/or restoration requests within a small time frame can be considered an abuse of the resource.  The user can be suspended from activity if such abuse continues.

[[File:Coh freedom.png|center|200px]]
Again, we reiterate that content on this MediaWiki resource is meant to be available for the duration of the resource itself.  While we appreciate the continued participation of our members to expand on this resource, it must also adhere to the ultimate goal of the resource itself, which is to provide information for all readers.

With the release of '''[http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Issue_21 "Issue 21: Convergence"]''', the world that we know changes.
<hr>

Gone is the Outbreak tutorial.  Gone is the Galaxy City that you rememberGone is the Atlas Park and Mercy Island that you have known for years.  Longtime NPC contacts are shuffled around or eliminated.
Now that we have the formalized [[Deletion Policy]] set down, we are giving content creators time to review the policy before enacting it.

What does this mean as a comic creator?  These changes can have an effect on the kinds of stories you doWant to show the [[Back Alley Brawler]]?  You won't see him standing watch in front of the Freedom Corps building anymore.  Have a scene in front of City Hall?  It's not the same City Hall you remember.  That could put a crimp in any ideas you may have of using stock images to help explain your story.
We will not begin deleting requested pages until September 1st.  ''(With the obvious exception of SPAM pages, which will be deleted on sight.)''

Now's a good time to go over the changes made to Paragon City and the Rogue Isles, get a games-eye view of them, and maybe getting some new [[stock image]] screenshots to keep for future reference.  Find out what happened to the contacts you once knew.  Doing this now could avoid confusion for you later.

It also helps to keep track of the changes made to both the Primal and Praetorian Universes by checking with not only the [http://www.cityofheroes.com City of Heroes website] but also with the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page Paragon Wiki resource].  Links to those sites can always be found on the left-hand toolbox.

'''The Archive Project'''
We're proud to announce that we have launched the '''[[MMO Comic Index Content Ratings System]]''' or '''MCICRS'''.
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

One of the projects that we here at the City of Comic Creators have been trying to do is archive as many of the City of Heroes fan-made comics as possible for posterity and for better appreciation.
The MCICRS is a voluntary ratings system for comic creators to provide a guide for readers as to what kind of material is in their publications.  Similar to the ratings systems used by major comic publishers, the MCICRS uses easy-to-understand designations for content that would be ideal for all audiences, for teens, for older teens and young adults, and clearly for adults.

Over the years, there have been many that have dabbled with creating their own comics, often for their own entertainment, and have shared the fruits of their creations with their friends and forum readers.  And then they often fade away into Internet obscurity.
[[Battlerock Comics]] is the first of the fan-made publishers to implement the MCICRS in their first issue of [[Guardians of the Dawn GRADUATION]], but other CCC members and publishers have also expressed interest in using the system in their future publications.

We feel that such creations deserve to be preservedTherefore we are working with the original authors of these fan-made comics to save them here at the Wiki.
Again, we point out that the ratings system is purely voluntary.  There will not be any positive or negative encouragement for publishers to use the systemIt's there to help them if they so wish.

The most recent comic restored is the one-shot special by [[Naughty_Nadya_(special)|Naughty Nadya]].  With the author's permission, this comic's various pages were collected and formatted into a PDF file and is now available for you to read.
Next on the to-do list should be the much-promised Deletion policy.

If you know about other similar fan-made comics, please [[Template Talk:WikiNews|let us know]].

We've been going over some of the proposed changes for the resource.

''(Submitted by [[User:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]] 14:16, 17 June 2011 (UTC) )''
The deletion policy is still being hammered out, so all non-SPAM deletions are still on hold until then.  We appreciate the contributions being made to this resource, and hopefully we'll see some fan-made comics being made from them.

There are several projects in the works right now, some of which are new comics, but some will also be helpful for all comic creators.

One of the projects we are working on is developing our own '''[[MMO Comic Index Content Ratings System]]'''.

'''''Short history:''''' Once upon a time, comic content was regulated by an industry-run group called the [[Comics Code Authority]].  This all-powerful organization came as a way to ward off crippling McCarthy-style government regulations during the repressive and fascistic 1950's.  Basically the big publishers came to the agreement that their comics would be approved by the CCA in order for them to get a special stamp of approval.  This is why the comics back then in the "Silver Age" had almost child-like stories to them.  Starting in the 1980's, though, the big publishers began abandoning the CCA for their own ratings systems.  Eventually nobody used the CCA, and now the CCA is owned by a free-speech group specifically so that it will never ever be used again.

===BattlerockX 15:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC)===
Well, we're going through with coming up with our own ratings system for fan-made MMO-based comics.
'''Recent Updates'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Following some recent private questions about creating entries in the Wiki, the '''[[:Category:How To|"How To"]]''' pages have been edited and new entries added, including how to create a new entry and how to take screenshotsHopefully this will help those who are unfamilair with using the MediaWiki system to include their own contributions.
We will have more about this in the future, but the important part is that this will be completely voluntary.  We won't require you to adhere to the content ratings to have your comics posted hereThis is just a little "CYA" measure that will give the readers some idea who the targeted audience is, and it will allow you the comic creator to be free with using the content that you feel comfortable with.

If you have any suggestions, please feel free to include them in the link below.
Stay tuned here for more details when they become available.

Here's another helpful tip for comic creators...
===BattlerockX 15:59, 3 March 2014 (MST)===
'''Changes Ahead'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Traditionally, comic books start out with Issue #1, which introduces the readers to your world and your characters.
It's been a while since we've done a news update, and I have to apologize for that.

But then a trend started in the 1990's is the release of a special issue, which they would dub '''Issue #0'''.  This could be done for any number of reasons.
Normally we would have at least one news update each month, however things have been getting in the way for us administrators.

'''Teaser''' - Issue #0 could be used to get the interest of the reader prior to some monumental miniseries, introducing the reader to characters or concepts that would play an essential role in that miniseries.
We are making some changes regarding the use of this MediaWiki resource in light of how it has been used of late.  Until we can formalize policy, we are suspending the deletion of pages with the obvious exception of SPAM.  Hopefully we will have something up soon that will reflect the best use of this resource and still encourage content contributions.

'''Prequel''' - Is there a story that hasn't been told but referenced in the series?  Some tragedy that happened?  A friendship formed or soured?  Issue #0 can be used to explain what happened.  A great example of this is '''[[Guardians of the Dawn Spotlight]] Issue #0''', which set the stage for the first three issues of the series, and then played a part in the "[[Time and Changes]]" storyline.
<u>'''Cape Radio News'''</u>

'''Origin Issue''' - Issue #1 doesn't necessarily provide the origin story of the central character. Or sometimes a character has been around for so long that his or her origin has been re-done so many times that it can confuse the passive reader. Issue #0 can then be used to re-tell that character's origin.
Our friends at [[The Cape Radio]] have [http://www.thecaperadio.com/about/announcements.php#20 recently changed their format] to reflect what they see is a shift in MMO trends, and that trend actually helps MMO players.

'''Promotional Issue''' - Otherwise called an "[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ashcan_copy Ashcan copy]", an Issue #0 is sometimes used by artists to promote their creation to publishers or distributors.
Previously, The Cape was focused on the [[City of Heroes MMO]]. But when that MMO was unjustly discontinued in 2012, the people at The Cape have decided to split their focus between [[Champions Online MMO|Champions Online]] and [[The Secret World MMO|The Secret World]].

Well back in November, the folks at TCR saw that The Secret World was dwindling in interest and could possibly join COH in MMO oblivion.  But rather than concentrate only on one MMO, TCR decided to expand their focus to ALL of the Perfect World MMO games.

So could an Issue #0 be good for your series? That depends on the story you have so far and whether it would be used to promote or to clarify.
So if you are a fan of Champions, Star Trek Online, Dungeons and Dragons Neverwinter, or any of the other PW games, you now have an online radio station for you to enjoy! And maybe that will help inspire you to come up with some new fan-made comics.

[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]

Did you know the City of Comic Creators has a special forum announcement thread?
Another year has come and gone, and we welcome 2014 with the hope that things will be better for both comic creators and comic fans.

As a part of the [http://boards.cityofheroes.com/ City of Heroes community], the CCC has a special forum thread for announcements about the latest comic releases, not just for our [[City of Comic Creators Compendium|Compendium]], but also for the various member artists.
While things have been bleak with the loss of the [[City of Heroes MMO]], comic creators have managed to keep the spirit going with continuing stories done with the help of archived content and demorecording.  Comics such as "[[The Justice-Knights]]", "[[The Crucible]]" and "[[New Allied Fighters]]" prove that while the game itself may be gone, the stories are able to continue.

Special thanks always goes to the City of Heroes forum administrators for their assistance in helping to promote the work of the artists, which in turn promotes City of Heroes.
And '''[http://battlerockcomics.wordpress.com/2013/12/25/merry-christmas/ more are on the way]'''...

It appears that the Champions Online Wiki resource is down[http://co-forum.perfectworld.com/showpost.php?p=3853491&postcount=22].

Like the MMO Comic Index, the CO Wiki is fan-made and user-supported.  These Wiki resources are done with the tacit approval of the MMO companies, but <u>they are not a part of the MMO</u>.  I know some of these people and I can tell you for a fact that the people behind these Wiki resources pay for these out of their own pockets, and they do it because they really love the MMO and they want to do everything they can to make the experience enjoyable for everyone.

Thoughts? Ideas? Feedback? Questions?  Any tips you would like to share? [[Template Talk:WikiNews|Let us know!]]
And it is sad when a content creator is so discouraged by the thing they have dedicated so much of their time doing - without pay I should add - that they decide to just give up. It doesn't matter if it's a Wiki resource, fan-made videos, or fan-made comics. This is something that MMO companies seem to fail to grasp and just take for granted that there would be this unending love and support. That love needs to be appreciated and reciprocated for it to go on, otherwise people will just give up. That's just human nature.

* Greetings and welcome to new member '''Golden Girl'''. She's new to the world of comic creation, but not to Paragon City. She just published her first comic '''"City of Heroes: New Kid on the Block"''', and hopefully we'll be seeing more from her soon.

* A new category has been created for '''[[:Category:Terminology|"Terminology"]]''', which will allow you to define [[Inter-Speak|phrases]], [[Sidechick Brigade|slang]], [[Event Terminal|concepts]], [[Thermo-Sensitive Disorder|conditions]], or [[Portal|technology]].  While we still should refer to the [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page Paragon Wiki] for in-game terminology, there are some that are unique to the various comic series.

* A new "[[:Category:Work In Progress|Work In Progress]]" category and template box for entries has been created for pages that still need developing.  Entries receiving the template will be automatically included in the "WIP" category.

'''It's Been A Year...'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]
On December 1st, 2012, the corporate entity that is NC Soft managed to do what gods, demigods, and even [[Lord Recluse]] and [[Nemesis]] were never able to accomplish. They utterly destroyed the universe known as '''[[City of Heroes MMO|City of Heroes]]'''.

They assumed that the millions that made Paragon City and the Rogue Isles their homes for over eight years would simply move to another of their MMOs.  They assumed that the heroes that have spent eight years sacrificing everything to save the city would simply accept fate and let it die.  They assumed that the villains that have spent almost eight years trying to take over the city would simply settle for watching someone else destroy it.

===BattlerockX 16:46, 13 February 2011 (UTC)===
They were WRONG!

Just some more housekeeping...
We made noise. We held protests. We let NC Soft know that we were not going to give up without a fight. And the company suffered financially because of it.  NC Soft prevailed, but we made sure that it was a phyrric victory for them.

* We like to welcome '''Johnny Raven''' to the ranks of the City of Comic Creators.  He has a series called the '''"Justice Corps Adventures"''' and hopefully he'll be making his presence known here in the Wiki.  Feel free to check out his [http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=248166 series here].
Even though the MMO has been gone for a year, "The City" remains in Facebook groups and message boards... It survives in groups scattered through various other MMOs.

* A new category has been created for [[:Category:Desktop Wallpapers|desktop wallpapers]], which you can find by going to the [[:Category:Comic Advertisements|Comic Advertisements]] sectionThere should hopefully be more wallpaper files soon to help promote the CCC.
And it survives through our storiesTime, energy, and effort goes into these stories, to remind people that "The City" still goes on even if the MMO cannot.

And more stories are coming.

'''Behave!'''

As one of the administrators of this resource, I first have to give a hearty welcome to those that have taken the time to contribute content and information.  Particiapation helps encourage more people to check out this resource and possibly even enjoy the content that we spend countless amounts of time, effort, and energy on.

Having said that, though, I must remind those that are new to a few things.

===BattlerockX 13:39, 6 February 2011 (UTC)===
First, we have no tolerance for SPAM. Period. Obviously the vast majority of spammers that try to infest our resource are bot-generated programs that cannot get past our modest barrier, but there are a few that manage to manually post junk. I say this to those of you determined to turn this resource into your own spam-revenue service: <u>'''YOU ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE!'''</u>  You will be banned and your IP will be blocked.  OUR resource, OUR rules. Not yours!
Just some general housekeeping...
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

* We like to welcome '''Henri''' to the ranks of the City of Comic CreatorsWe came across Henri through a new [http://questquarterly.blog.com/ fan-based newsletter] and hopefully he'll be making his presence known here in the Wiki. Feel free to check out his [http://henri-1.deviantart.com/ deviantART profile here].
Second, I must remind people that this resources is for fan-made MMO contentThis is not a substitute for PRIMUS or other gamer-based role-playing resources. New content is good, but hopefully there's a fan-made comic book involved with it, or at the very least a reference to one. ''(And bear in mind that as one of the administrators, I <u>DO</u> research these things!)'' I'm not saying this to discourage people particiapting, but rather as an encouragement to come up with some fan-made comics, or otherwise work with people that do.

* Work is progressing on '''[[City_of_Comic_Creators_Compendium#Issue_6|C.C.C.Compendium #6]]'''.  Two stories have been submitted and a third is hopefully on the way.
And third, I'm asking that people please '''''behave''''' when it comes to comments on the content of others. We have no desire to be den mother forum monitors ''(cripes, the top two admins are libertarians!)'', so please spare us all some grief and keep your comments constructive, instructive, informative, or otherwise beneficial.  We have a hard enough time dealing with the bottom-feeding spammers.

* New [[:Category:Comic Advertisements|promotional ads]] have been added for creators to use in their publications.  More should hopefully be added soon, including some desktop-friendly images.

Here's another tip for comic creators...

'''Catching Up for October'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|link=user:BattlerockX|BattlerockX]]
You've probably noticed that our monthly updates have been getting a little anemic.

When coming up with material for your comic, be mindful of not only the clock, but the calendar as well.
Part of the reason why has to do with the workload we creators have to deal with that go beyond our work.

Different events go on in the City of Heroes paraverse that have an effect on the environmentRikti incursions, Zombie Apocalypse, and Deadly Apocalypse are all short-term events that have plenty of warningBut it is a little different when you're working on a project that requires your characters to operate in the daytime and you're in the middle of the Halloween Event with 24-hour darkness lasting weeks or even a whole month. ''(Thankfully Architect Entertainment helps with this particular problem.)''
This isn't a job for us.  We all work or go to school.  We create comics because we have stories to tell and we want to share them with you, but these things don't pay our billsIn fact, because these are fan-based comics, we legally cannot make any money off them, even though we will dedicate our time, effort, and talent into them.  So we have to workWe have to make money so we can pay to keep our computers going and to play the MMO games to inspire us and to come up with these great comics for you to enjoy.

Likewise, there are some settings that would be great for your story that just aren't possible for most of the yearFor instance, the Ski Chalet and the accompanying frozen mission landscapes are only available during one time of the year.
This is truly a labor of love for usWe '''love''' doing this.

So bear the following events and activities in mind during the year, and remember that their duration can last anywhere from two weeks to a whole month.
By the way, this is also why some of our stories are better than our mainstream comic counterparts.  When you are your own writer, creator, editor, and publisher, you don't have to worry about "editorial mandate" messing things up.

* '''[http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Valentine%27s_Event Spring Fling/Valentine Event] - February-March'''
It may take a little longer for some of our work to come out, but I'm sure you'll find that we make the wait worth it!

24-hour Darkness (darker than normal nighttime), Zombie Apocalypse, Deadly Apocalypse, Trick-or-Treat and monster-themed opponents ("Witches", "Werewolves", zombies, "Vampires", "ghosts") in cities.  Limited-time rocks and "costumes".

As you probably have noticed, we've been making plenty of changes to our little modest MediaWiki resource.

The most visible one is the '''[[New Releases]]''' section, which you can see with the banner at the top of the Main Page.  Since our various member-creators have different release schedules, we've to come up with a way for you to see which new comics have been published.  It's also been very helpful that '''[[user:Ra.|the mighty Ra]]''' has been coming up with some promotional ads for some of these new releases, and whenever possible we will share them in the New Releases section for that month.

Another feature which we brought over from the original CoH Comic Index site is the '''[[How To: Create A Comic|"How To Create A Comic"]]''' feature which includes tips and tricks on how to create your own fan-made comic book or comic book series.  This "How To" special includes help on layout, cover design, the various page elements, and some particular legal issues surrounding comic book creations.  The series uses the [[City of Heroes MMO]] as its base, but pretty much every element can apply to other MMOs.

===BattlerockX 15:11, 2 December 2010 (UTC)===
We've also been coming up with more ads for our member-creators to use in their publications, including some for our friends at '''[[The Cape Radio]]'''.  After all, we MMO supporters have to help each other, right?  Right now many of the ads are for the [[Champions Online MMO]], but there will be others soon.

Are these new comic books?  No, those are actual storylines within already-established comic series.

A "[http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/storyline storyline]" is the plot of a story, but it doesn't have to be limited to just one comic issue or even two or three.  A storyline can actually run the span multiple issues within a series, or even across multiple series.  This is especially true with the stories done by [[Kk-comics|KK-Comics]] crossing over through several series.
===BattlerockX 11:27, 30 June 2013 (MDT)===

'''Welcome New Readers!'''
We have created in a new category for the CoH Wiki called '''"[[:Category:Comic Storylines|Comic Storylines]]"'''.  This will allow you to highlight the key elements of a storyline within your series, as well as point out events that lead into the storyline and how the storyline affected other events in the series.  What events served as a precursor to your storyline?  What sort of consequences happened because of your storyline?  You don't have to give away every secret or every twist to a storyline.  In fact you can link back to the issue and invite the reader to see more about it.  The purpose of the storyline entry is to summarize up key events within the storyline.

One key suggestion to make is that when you create an entry for your storyline that you include an abbreviation for your comic title.  For instance, "Smoke and Mirrors" is the storyline title for both the "[[City of Heroes]]" series and for "[[GGRRR]]".  So when you do a search for "Smoke and Mirrors" you can see one for "[[Smoke and Mirrors (CoH)]]" and one for "[[Smoke and Mirrors (GGRRR)]]" and that will let you know that you are dealing with two separate comic series.

'''Non-Spoiler Help'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's a helpful tip for Wiki entries...
This is just a quick message to welcome the new and returning viewers of our MediaWiki Resource, especially to those coming to us through the various Facebook groups.

Nobody likes giving away the ending to a story, especially when you're not AT the end of the story.
We also want to remind newly-registered users that we do not tolerate the use of this resource for SPAM.  We already have some measures in place, but we have seen some questionable user entries as well.

Unfortunately one of the problems is that you create a character entry, you want to put some info out there, but you also don't want to give away the twists in the story that you haven't published yet.
This MediaWiki resource is designed for the purpose of providing information for MMO-based fan-made comics.  This does not include third-party websites that promote products outside of that purpose.  We have a strong [[MMO Comic Index:Policy|no-SPAM policy]] in place and much like our previous website we have no qualms banning users and their IPs that violate that policy.

Sometimes that means putting a blank entry or a really simple one with a sentence or two and then fill in the blanks later...
For the others, I hope you will enjoy visiting this resource as we bring in more and more fan-made comics.

OR you can submit a "redacted" entry.

With a huge imposing international governing body such as the '''[[Vanguard]]''' and the eternal threat of a [[Rikti]] incursion, you can easily put in an entry with just enough information to let people know the character is out there, and then say that the rest of the information (the part covered in the storyline) has been ''"Restricted by Vanguard"''.  Then after the storyline has been published and played out, you can go back to the entry and fill in the blanks.

Plus, blaming it all on Vanguard allows you to not feel pressured to update your character's entry in the Wiki. After all, we all know that government agencies at all levels drag their heels on disclosing even the time of day.

'''Game-time versus Demo-time'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators...
Welcome to the next stage of fan-made comic resources.

There are many ways that you can create the material for your comicUnless you're drawing the whole thing by hand (or the computer equivalent), you'll probably be using screen captures.  And why not?  After all, you've spent all of that time creating the character that you're playing with... why not show it off?
Our original wiki resource is still around, but with the corporate-dictated demise of the City of Heroes, our creators have spread out to other realms, coming up with new fan-made stories to tellSome will continue to tell stories within the "City", but now we are not limited to just one MMORPG.

Getting screen captures are really easy if you know where the folder is on your computerAll you have to do is hit the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard and what you see is what becomes saved as a JPG image.
This new Wiki resource is still in the construction phase, so there are still plenty of things to work on.  I hope you will bear with us as we mold and shape this resource into one that will be on par with all of the game resources out there.

But here you have two possibilities as to how you can get those images.
In the meantime, the City of Comic Creators also has a presence on Facebook.

First is just regular '''game-time''' snapshots.  Much like a photographer doing a photo-shoot, you get your subjects lined up, doing what you want that person to do and then click-click-click away.  The downside is that you have to be careful about other characters, other events, and the passage of time.  Waiting around for the sun to rise can take a while, plus a [[Rikti|Rikti Invasion]] or some other holiday-related event could put a damper on your activities.  Thankfully the Mission Architect can help with some of these elements.
All comic creators past and present are welcome to join our CCC Group on Facebook so we will still be able to keep in touch with the various projects.

The second way is '''[[Demo editing|demo recording]]'''.  Demo recording allows you to "record" game time to a file that you can replay later.  There are plenty of resources that will allow you to tweak the recording to change characters, perspectives, or actions.  You can even control the time of day and location of the point-of-view.  Then you can run the program and save the images.  ''(This is also how a lot of video creators come up with their fan-made masterpieces.)''  The plus side is you have full control over all of the action.  The downside is this is very complicated and requires a lot of time and effort to put together the scenes.
Click '''[http://www.facebook.com/groups/118888718261019/ HERE]''' to access the City of Comic Creators Facebook Group.

But no matter which way you eventually use, be sure to check with our '''[[:Category:Comic Help|Comic Help]]''' and '''[[:Category:How To|How To]]''' sections to get more helpful tips or even to provide some tips of your own.

One of the newer features to the website is an expanded look at [[:Category:Groups|Groups]].
Here you'll be able to see hero groups, villain groups, and just general storyline groups that may or may not be good or evil.  We've also expanded the categories to include entries for the media, government, and the police.
Creators, please feel free to add your own supergroups or story-based groups to these categories where appropriate.

'''Going Rogue Is HERE!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
In honor of the recent release of the new '''City of Heroes: Going Rogue''' expansion, brand new fan-made full page ads have been created so you can help hype up the next level of super-powered MMO action.
'''[http://goingrogue.cityofheroes.com City of Heroes:Going Rogue]''' goes where no superhero MMO has gone before... namely to the gold zone between Good and Evil.  In this strange [[Alternate_Realities#Inter-Dimensional_Universes|alternate universe]] from the City of Heroes/City of Villains world, the heroes have become the conquerors, and the greatest hero of them all serves as emperor.  Where you stand in this new world depends entirely on the choices you make.  Who will you stand behind?  The conquering heroes?  Or the resistance?
For comic creators, you can now help promote this new expansion with special "Going Rogue" full-page ads.  These are fan-made creations based on material already provided by NCSoft/Paragon Studios and designed to fully-fit a normal page.  This includes all-new ads featuring Neuron, the Syndicate, Clockwork, the Praetorian Police, and the Resistance.
'''[[:Category:Going Rogue|Click here to see the new Going Rogue full-page ads.]]'''
And don't forget that we have other [[:Category:Comic advertisments|comic ads]] that you can include in your comic creations.  Some come from NCSoft, others are original creations by other comic creators, but they're all here for you to use.

'''PREPARE FOR GOING ROGUE!'''
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
In case you haven't heard, the next big expansion for '''City of Heroes''' finally comes out this month.
'''[http://goingrogue.cityofheroes.com City of Heroes:Going Rogue]''' will go where no superhero MMO has gone before... namely to the grey zone ''(although they make it yellow for some reason)'' between Good and Evil.  It will introduce people to a whole new alternate universe where the good guys are really the bad guys and the bad guys are... well they're really not there.  There are a lot of things that will be added to the whole "City of Heroes" experience that will change your view on gameplay, even if you don't get the expansion program itself.

We are in the process of updating some of the earlier comic entries.  You may have already noticed some changes already.
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
Most of the updates will involve fixing links or organizing the various issues a little more uniformly.
On occasion some new entries will be made for the main heroes featured in the series based on the information listed in their respective issues.  Should the original authors of these series wish to further expand on their characters, they are more than welcome to [[Special:UserLogin|register and sign in]] to contribute.
Remember: your contributions help improve this online resource.

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators:
[[File:BRX-Icon.jpg|right|thumb|100px|BattlerockX]]
Who's the guy in City Hall talking about day jobs?  What's the name of the female Merrit Vendor at Fort Darwin?
Do you have a name for those people in your comic?  What is it?
Consistency is important when it comes to telling a good comic story.  If you named the day jobs representative Bob in one issue, you don't want to call him Garry in the next issue.
This is where a resourse such as this one (or [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page Paragon Wiki]) come in.  A little bit of research usually helps clear up some of the confusion. Plus, if that information isn't availible, and you decide to make it up yourself for your own comic, you can then add that detail here in at our resource.
So then, when the next comic creator comes along to look it up, they'll know that the day jobs representative's name is "Bob".

Here's a helpful tip for comic creators:
'''Time''' is a tricky subject for the City of Heroes.
Unless you are crafting your stories in real-time, always remember when certain key events occured.
For instance, if your story takes place before April of 2009, then you should be careful to not include any references to [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Issue_14 Architect Entertainment].  The same applies for the Vanguard, which kept a low profile until the [[Rikti#The_Second_Rikti_Invasion_of_2007|Second Rikti Invasion of July 2007]].  It's a little hard to say that your story takes place in 2000 if the characters are seen standing next to a War Wall that did not exist until 2002.
The best way to make sure that your story meshes with the City of Heroes/City of Villains universe is to use this resource and the resources at [http://wiki.cohtitan.com/wiki/Main_Page Paragon Wiki].  A little bit of research always helps to make the story blend in better with the rest of the City of Heroes/City of Villains.

There have been several changes to the website in the past week, including...
* The addition of '''[[:Category:In-Game Characters|In-Game Characters]]''', '''[[City of Heroes|CoH Comic Series]]''', and the '''[[City of Comic Creators Compendium]]''' to the main page.
* Expanded background entries for in-game characters, groups, and events.
* New open-ended categories for '''[[:Category:Arachnos|Arachnos]]''' and '''[[:Category:Midnight Squad|Midnight Squad]]'''.  Now if you have a '''VEAT character (Soldier/Widow)''' in a story, you can include them in the '''Arachnos''' category along with '''[[Lord Recluse]]''' and the other in-game characters.
Also there is a new [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfclbccNQw8 promotional video] for the website, with more on the way.  Please feel free to spread the word.  The audio comes from the 20-second commerical that was recorded for one of the newer MMO-themed radio stations, but I am in the process of trying to get some more commercials made and to be promoted on another (24/7) online radio station.  Stay tuned for updates.

The Upload feature is now fully unlocked so everyone should now be able to upload pdf files of sizes up to 20mb. This was one of the main steps needed to be implemented towards the goal of filling the resource void left from hypercomics.
The Protect feature is a function Mods and Admins can tap to prevent others from changing pages and files. If there is a page that should be protected or a protected page that shouldn't be protected, please contact an mod/admin.
There is also a new page started by [[User:BattlerockX]] to upload your comics ads. Check it out in the Comic Help section.
The final step before fully releasing this site and getting the featured article and series of the week section updated regularly, is to have more Series pages that are polished off or complete.

Also, keep in mind there is a difference between an author's page and searching comics BY author. If you have a comic, please put a category of the author on that bottom WITHOUT the "User" part. Then after saving, click on the name (it should be red if this is done for the first time) and create this page with whatever information you wish but place the category at the bottom "By Author" so that that comic can be seen when searching by author. This is done because the User page does not work like the category pages and will not list the same way. Not all people use their user pages and not all use it in a way that gives easy access to their comics. You may use both if you wish but there is a difference between a user's author page and a category by author that we use to list all comics by authors. [[File:Sintab.JPG|right|thumb|200px]]

Coming Soon To A Virtual Convention Near You!

BattlerockX

We are proud to announce that both Battlerock X and .Ra will be guests in this year's virtual convention DawnCon VI starting on July 25th.

A virtual convention is one that takes place only online. In this case, the convention is hosted by the superhero group Paragon Dawn and their streaming radio service Dawn Radio. As the title implies, this is the sixth year of this virtual convention, and it spans multiple MMO platforms, including the not-so-secret City of Heroes MMO private servers and Champions Online MMO.

He is known for the 3D animated graphic novels such as The Crucible and The Crucible Unlimited.

This will be Battlerock X's first time appearing as a guest for DawnCon, although he has attended last year's convention. He is best known for a variety of MMO-based comics, most recently Future's Guardian and Battlerock Comics Presents.

If you are interested in attending and want to know more about the upcoming events, please visit the Facebook Events page.

Welcome to 2020!

BattlerockX

Welcome to the year 2020!

It's been a hectic year for the comic creators as many of us have had to deal with personal and/or medical issues, which is why you haven't seen as many new comics compared to recent years.

The "return" of the City of Heroes MMO in the form of private servers has been something of a surprise to people, although it remains to be seen if this will be something permanent.

On the home front, we have disabled forum registrations until further notice. Those already with access to the forums will still be able to log in. Any possible new registrations will be handled on a one-on-one basis through someone that is already a part of our group. You can thank the endless wave of spammers and spambots and hackers for this.

Hopefully the new year will be better than the old one.

Happy 10th Anniversary, Champions!

BattlerockX

We want to take this time to say Happy 10th Anniversary to Champions Online!

The MMO went online on September 1st, 2009, and every year they celebrate with a month-long event with a giant cake and free concerts.

This is the MMO that was created by the same people who created City of Heroes, based on the role-playing game that also served as the inspiration for CoH. You can see the similarities with some of the heroes, especially when it comes to Witchcraft and Sister Psyche. But the developers also made sure that Champions would feature some things that they could not incorporate in CoH, such as being able to pick up objects and throw them. (They also had a belly slider, but somehow that got removed.) They also introduced the concept of vehicles, essentially turning your character into a customizable vehicle that they can use to travel.

Sadly, their content slackened somewhat in recent years, going into what they call "maintenance mode" while the developers worked on other projects. However, with the recent news of a "hidden server" for the now-shuttered City of Heroes showing continued interest in superhero MMOs, and with the 10th Anniversary, Cryptic has been adding more and more content.

We want to take this time to wish Champions Online a Happy 10th Anniversary and for providing content for comic creators.

Updating Champion Material

BattlerockX

Welcome to October (almost November).

With the recent focus on the world of Champions Online MMO through the pages of "The Crucible" and the upcoming resumption of "Future's Guardian" issues, there's a new look at all entries based in that MMO.

The most obvious update is on your left with the "Game Resources". The original Wiki for Champions Online was shuttered a few years ago, so a new link had to be found. But there were actually two: the "official" Wiki site according to the official Champions Online website and the "PRIMUS" Wiki. They're still not as helpful as, say, the Paragon Wiki when City of Heroes was still operating, but they do provide some background information and images.

In addition, you'll see a few of our entries be updated with images and relevant information, getting you caught up with what is going on in the world of the Champions as seen through our various comics.

We hope you enjoy the new content and the new issues.

Keeping It Simple for 2018

BattlerockX

Hey everyone! Welcome to 2018!

Your not-so-friendly-neighborhood admin (just ask the forum spammers) is here just to give you a hint as to what to expect from us this year.

You've probably noticed that our news hasn't been very fresh. There've been a few gaps. Sadly, those can't be helped. Things happen outside of the CCC that we can't control. Family emergencies, workplace issues, lack-of-workplace issues, that sort of stuff.

We used to have many contributors. Now we are lucky if we can get one new comic per month. And I don't blame them either, because things do happen that we have no control over.

Our forum has basically become a clogged cesspool of spambots trying to get in and me continually denying them and banning their illegal IP addresses and trying not to ban legitimate IP addresses. And I have to tell you, this is very trying on me. I hate these people!

I wish we could do more... but for right now, that's all we can do with so few people getting involved and way too much to do.

So if there's nothing else between now and next January, enjoy the rest of the year, folks.

Quick Update

BattlerockX

Funny how time flies.

So the forum is ready for those of us that still want to use it for discussions.

New Year, New President, New Rules!

BattlerockX

And now we're back... hope everyone had a great vacation.

Few bits of news to catch us up. Apparently the spammers haven't gone away even though they are beaten. They keep trying, we keep banning and blocking when they try.

We've had to make one more adjustment because they found a way to get in by using a dummy email to confirm their IP. So until further notice, all forum applications must be approved by the admins before they can get in, and that includes valid applications from real people. Sorry, but you can thank the Internet's criminal scum for that change.

Hope everyone have survived the winter and the wrath of our new president.

Happy Holidays from the City of Comic Creators!

BattlerockX

This will most likely be the last news update for the year. With the holidays fast approaching, essential time is being placed on stories and family, with more on the latter and less on the former.

Oh, and just because the updates will be paused for the holidays, that doesn't mean the admins will be taking a break from the site. Sorry, spammers, you still lose.

See you all in 2017.

The Spambots Have Fallen!

BattlerockX

Well we've gone a whole month (plus) with the new measures put in place in our forum and the attacks on our forum by those dirty, filthy, amoral spammers and their spambots have decreased dramatically.

Sin Stalker, our real admin (since I've been busy slaying spambots), has been finding these great video clips on YouTube focusing on elements that go into great comic books.

His most recent find has to do with how lettering helps the reader catch the eye on the artwork.

Check it out yourself!

And for City of Comic Creators members, we have a Help Request section in our forum that you're more than welcome to use should you need help or feedback with your comic series. I know from experience that Sin Stalker and some of the other comic creators are great sounding boards to help make your comics the best they can be!

Shoving A Stake Into The Heart Of The Spambots

BattlerockX

Those of you who have been keeping track of the news know about our endless battle against the dirty, filthy, amoral spammers and their bots. They have made life for us struggling admins very miserable for too many months. They forced us to invoke the nuclear option when it came to our MediaWiki resource, and then, when we launched our forum, they made life miserable for this admin there as well.

But at least we have a few tools at our disposal with the forum. We can blanket-ban their stolen IP addresses. Whole IP ranges have been blocked and several thousand phony accounts created by the disgusting spammers have been purged from our rolls.

But they continued to plague us. Just when we would think they got the message and would leave us alone, they'd carpet bomb us again with new waves of enrollments.

Then something funny happened. One little change in the options slammed on the brakes.

Now all new user registrations have to actually confirm their registration through their email. And since spammers don't use their real email addresses, there is no way they can get around this!

Game over.

Yes, they continue to try, but they can't automate their way past this hurdle.

Hopefully they will finally get the hint. Their filthy kind are not wanted or welcomed here.

June Heat

BattlerockX

Well apparently the dirty filthy spammers felt a little left out here, because they decided to hit our forum with a vengeance these past few days. While it has been very frustrating for your hard-working admin, I have to remind myself that they're actually doing me a favor, because when they bombard us, they're also letting us know which IP addresses to block, and we don't just block one or two IP addresses at a time. We block whole segments!

Sorry spammers, but this resource is for US, not for you!

Speaking of the forum, it appears last month's news article about the faux comic covers struck a cord with at least one forum member. Well, at the very least we welcome the feedback, even if they have some disagreement with what is being said. If you want to check out the discussion, feel free to do so here, and maybe if you want to join in the conversation you can sign up and add your thoughts to the subject.

Just as long as you're not a dirty filthy spammer, that is.

Faux Cover vs Fan-Made Comics

BattlerockX

Sometimes a creative MMO player will come up with what looks like the start of a really nice fan-made comic.

And you say to yourself "Hey, this looks interesting! Can't wait to read it!"

Only you can't, because no such comic really exists.

The creative player only came up with a faux comic cover instead of a full-blown comic.

And if they need help coming up with a full-blown comic, you can always point them here and to our unique "How To" section.

Membership Has Its Privileges

BattlerockX

One of the things about being a member of the City of Comic Creators is that you have access to things that most people don't have.

For starters, members have editing rights to the Wiki. This allows members to create pages to help promote their comics and to expand on their characters. Of course, they still have to register an account and request access.

Then there's the forum. Most people can access the forum (unless they're flagged as a spammer) and post comments and ask questions, but CCC members have access to a special section. There they can talk part in discussions concerning policy and even ask for and get help from other comic creators.

Our resources are valuable tools for comic creators, and we do our best to protect them from spammers.

Of course, if you're just a fan of our comics, you're still welcome to take part in most of other discussions... including talking about this very article.

A Break? Or Did They Get The Hint?

BattlerockX

Just a quick update...

Things are starting to quiet down with the spammers over on the forum. There have been a few days where it seems like the spammers have gotten the point that they are not welcomed here. Either that or they've ran out of IP addresses that haven't already been blocked.

Changes Ahead!!!

BattlerockX

There are going to be a few modest changes to some of the features here on the Wiki Resource.

First of all, the discussion threads will now point to our forum instead of the "Talk" section. The chief reason is because we had to neuter editing the Wiki because of the spammers, and since we have a forum with greater control over neutering the spammers, this is a better option for everyone. Except for the spammers, of course. They can rot in hell.

Second, you may have noticed that the Featured Article section has been a little stagnant.

And, again, this will have its own discussion thread in the forum, so you can relay your thoughts and suggestions there.

And, of course, feel free to chime in on some of the other discussions there.

Unless you're a spammer. Then you can rot in hell.

BattlerockX

Well here it is, December. The holidays are here, the stores are getting busy, and the stress factor goes into the stratosphere for many people.

We here at the City of Comic Creators want to wish everyone a joyful Holiday Season. We hope you're able to enjoy some time with family and... if possible... enjoy some of the fan-made comics you can find here in our resource.

Forum Tested, Spammers Blocked

BattlerockX

Not too long ago we launched our new forum, which allows you to take part in discussions and gives us the means to give CCC members write and edit powers in the Wiki.

Then, of course, the spammers and their spam-bots discovered the forum, and they attacked it mercilessly.

Unfortunately for them, our forum has a few tools that the Wiki doesn't. Such as being able to trace back the IP address the spammers use and find out where they are from, and blocking not only their accounts, but also their IP addresses. And not just one IP address at a time, but a whole range of IP numbers. And then we delete their accounts and their spam messages.

So now the spammers from Russia are finding out the hard way when they try to visit this site that their IP addresses are blocked, and they get the following message back in Russian:

THIS IS OUR FORUM, NOT YOURS!

Yes, it seems harsh, but these are the folks that made running a resource like ours a nightmare. It's a relief to finally be able to lock them out without locking everyone else out.

Annoying Ads In Comics

BattlerockX

There is an interesting question concerning comics over at our forum. Only this time it's not about fan-made comics. Instead we're talking about mainstream comic publishers and the recent decision by DC Comics to run half-page ads along with their story panels.

Of course the decision to place ads in fan-made comics is entirely up to the creators themselves, and this resource has plenty of special ads to help, but, again, we're talking about one of the "Big Two" comic publishers. A publisher owned by a major multi-conglomerate corporation, no less!

So, what do you think on the subject? For or against? Cast your vote in the poll and leave your thoughts in the forum. We even have an example of one of the ads there in case you've been either getting them digitally or if you don't normally read comics.

Some Site Updates

BattlerockX

Well some serious changes have been going on behind the scenes here at this humble little resource of ours.

We've transitioned over to the new server and everything seems to be working okay. We've also straightened out some of the links, especially for the Champions Online Wiki. There are still some of the older links that point to the old COH Comic Index site, but we're slowly moving those. Give us time on these, okay?

You may have noticed that we've included a forum. Not everyone in the City of Comic Creators have (or want) access to Facebook, so they've been missing out on our updates there. Plus, remember how we had locked away all the access to create and edit our resource for most of you? Well now we have a means for you to request access so you can contribute to our resource. (That part is still something we are hammering the details out.)

But even if you don't qualify for access, the forum will still be a great place for you to ask questions and offer suggestions and even give feedback on the comics found here.

Keep in mind that we will still go after spammers just like we are doing with the Wiki resource, and we do monitor the forums. So behave!

Oh, and this is still in "Beta", so there may be some changes later on that will affect the content in the forums.

HOT News For July - Part 2!

BattlerockX

Following our HOT News for the month, we have two updates.

First, the transition to the new server is now complete. You should notice a few minor changes, but most of the big changes will be on our end as admins. A few more toys to play with, and more ways to make things better for us.

The old anti-SPAM safeguards are still in effect, though, so only verified comic creators have creation and editing powers. Sorry, but we need to keep the spammers and their bots at bay, and this is the only way to do it right now.

The other big news... Paragon Chat, aka SOON(TM), is now online!

Yes, you can now return to Paragon City and hang out with your friends, both real and NPC. You can create your character just like you did with Titan Icon and you can keep those characters, which was something you really couldn't do with Icon unless you saved the file and then re-loaded it. (Trust me, it was very frustrating.)

Now... few things.

You need to have a Titan Network account to use Paragon Chat. It's not that hard to do, and it's free, but if you don't have one already, then it could take some time before it translates into a Paragon Chat account.

Second... right now your choice of travel is restricted to running and... running. Be patient and hopefully you'll be able to fly around like you could with Titan Icon.

Third, you will need either i23 or i24Beta version of the game. If you look hard enough over at Titan Network, you should find the means to download it.

You can, however, dress the part and show off your creation skills with others. And maybe later on there might be something more, but for now you can revel in the camaraderie of your friends and maybe even take part in a costume contest or two just out of nostalgia.

For more information about Paragon Chat, check out this FAAQ from Titan Network.

HOT News For July

BattlerockX

Welcome to July, the second-half of 2015!

July is pretty hot, but not because of comic news.

We have two important things to talk about.

First of all, you may remember we talked about transitioning over to a new server. That will happen later this month, so things may get a little hairy because of it. There's a lot that will be going on behind-the-scenes that the admins (including yours truly) have to worry about during the transition.

Please bear with us during that time, and check back here for updates when they are available.

But, more importantly, is the debut of something rather big, especially for those of us from "The City".

It's no secret that most of the City of Comic Creators members used to be from the City of Heroes MMO before it was shut down in December of 2012. Since then, some of us have been getting by either by focusing on other MMO games like Champions Online or through a little magic involving Titan Icon and Demorecording. The latter has helped us continue those stories from "The City", but it hasn't been easy, because the people that used to enjoy our comics have felt left out.

That will come to an end soon. And by "soon", I mean "Soon(TM)".

Paragon Chat, aka "Soon(TM)", is a way for former "City" residents to once again connect with their friends in Paragon City. Much like Titan Icon, Paragon Chat uses the last available version of the MMO (Issue 24 Beta) installed on your computer, but connects to a separate XMPP system. In other words, it turns the MMO into a virtual chat program.

The MMO is still "dead". Your characters will just be chat avatars, being able to move about and converse with anyone else logged in, but there will be no combat, no missions, no lives to save or ruin.

But you can still create a hero or villain, with all of the costume pieces you used to enjoy. You can visit all of the places you used to go to, even some of the places that were new to I24. You'll be able to meet up with your friends and meet new ones.

And for comic creators such as myself, it's an opportunity to get new material and bring attention back to what we are good at doing... fan-made comics!

Paragon Chat is supposed to go live on 7/7, and for more information on this, you can check out the folks at the Titan Network, home of the Paragon Wiki.

Hopefully we'll see you back in "The City"!

Quick Update On Our Friends At The Cape Radio

BattlerockX

Our apologies for not keeping up with the news. Normally we have at least one news report per month, and we accidentally let May go by quietly. We'll try to do better in the future.

We have a quick update concerning our friends over at The Cape Radio. Once upon a time they were the premiere player-run radio station for City of Heroes players, especially those on the Virtue Server. But with our beloved "City" gone as an MMO (but still alive thanks to our comics), The Cape Radio had to expand to other MMO universes. First two universes, then three.

And now they're all over the place.

Yes, The Cape Radio is no longer just dedicated to a couple of MMO games. Now they're into everything.

So now it doesn't matter if you're playing Star Trek Online or Champions Online or Minecraft or DC Universe Online or World of Warcraft or even testing the Pre-Alpha Valiance Online. The Cape Radio has something for you.

The Cape Radio has your back.

Short But Sweet Update

BattlerockX

The update this month will be somewhat short but sweet.

The spammers still try to worm their way into our resource, but thanks to our "nuclear" option, they can only continue to generate accounts and nothing more. Of course it means our "username" list grows larger and larger every day.

But... that may also be going away.

We are in the process of switching providers. This is a long and protracted process for us for many reasons, with the biggest being the difficulty in transferring the wiki material over to the new provider.

What we may end up having to do is starting the resource from scratch and then porting over as much content as possible. What that means is that those thousand and thousands of bot-generated usernames would all disappear... along with the few valid users that use this resource as it is meant to. That means re-enrolling with new passwords and getting the new user categories re-established so people can go back to contributing to the resource. It's not something we want to do, but that is something that may happen with this transition.

Keep checking this section for updates when they become available.

"Nuclear" Update And More

BattlerockX

It's been almost a month since we used the "nuclear" option against the spammers and their bots, locking out all editing and creating rights to non-comic creators.

As one of the admins that spent countless hours having to continually watch this resource and try to play whack-a-bot with the spammers (and losing), it is a breath of fresh air to not have to worry anymore about them perverting our resource.

The spammers haven't stopped trying, though. They are still trying to take over this resource. Only this time they are on the losing side.

There was something that Shamdasani said in the article that stood out that I want to share with you.

"We have the freedom to not have to follow in the wake of an upcoming media tie-in, like a big movie or video game, and we don't have to serve larger licensing goals. We can simply just make great comics."

Click here to check out the SCPR article.

We Went Nuclear

BattlerockX

It is said that Friday the 13th was first considered an "unlucky day" because it was the day that the Knights Templar were taken down by the heavy-hand of King Phillip of France. Scores of Knights Templar were arrested, tortured, tried, and executed for made-up crimes.

Well, the self-appointed "knights" of spam that have besieged this resource are discovering that this is an unlucky day for them too.

We, the administrators of this resource, have invoked the "nuclear" option when it comes to new members and their ability to create and edit entries here.

Spammers have had a field day hiding behind fake proxys and concealed IP addresses, using bots to create dozens of member accounts every hour on the hour and then bombarding us with spam posts. And this administrator has been waging a losing war trying to take down every spam post that is put up and trying to block and ban every spammer account that applies.

Today, Friday the 13th, that ends.

From now on, regular users will no longer be able to create or edit entries, including their own user pages. They also will not be able to take part in discussions. Only those we (the administrators) have verified to be legitimate comic creators will have this ability.

We are currently working on a way to formalize this process for future members, so for right now the verification will be on a case-by-case basis. Every current comic creator that has an account here is being moved to "Verified" status so they can continue to contribute to the resource. Operative words being "comic creator". If you have an account here and you haven't come up with a fan-made comic in the past, you better do so.

We did not want to go this route. We wanted this resource to be open for all to enjoy. But the spammers really have left us with no choice. This is our resource, not theirs. This is a resource for creators and readers of fan-made comics, not a dumping ground for mass-marketers.

BattlerockX 15:08, 25 January 2015 (MST)

Welcome to the New Year!

BattlerockX

Welcome to 2015, everyone!

Sorry this entry is a little late, but this humble creator and admin has been busy here with the holidays and also with the pending debut of the new series "Furia and the Guardians", as well as a few other projects that I hope we can talk about soon.

First things first... I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I hope my fellow creators used this opportunity to recharge your mental batteries so you can come up with new comics for the rest of us to enjoy.

One of the things we've started doing is a special PNN News Break series for those comics that are based in the world of the City of Heroes MMO. These are two-page teasers which set the stage for an up-coming comic series. Although these have been running under the radar since the summer, we will start to include them in the New Releases section.

That brings us to our third issue... the ugly stench of spammers.

As mentioned in our Spam Policy, we have no tolerance for Spam, which we define as being "the use of this website's resources either to advertise for third-party merchant services that do not involve the stated goal of this website or to use the resources as a reference page for unsolicited electronic advertisement through other services (i.e. electronic mail)." This resource is monitored regularly for new registered users and for all additions and changes made to it, and recently we have been besieged by spammers attempting to co-opt this resource for their own purposes.

To that end, we (the admins) have made a few changes on the back-end that should hopefully make it difficult for spammers to continue to operate here. That includes extending the length we block IP addresses from 24-hours to a whole year.

Hopefully we won't have to make any other kinds of changes, but if we have to, we will let you know here.

Remember, this resource is for MMO-based fan-generated comics and related reference information, and it is monitored.

Happy Holidays!

BattlerockX

With the holiday season upon us, there is much for us to reflect upon and give thanks.

We are certainly grateful for the fan-made comics that have been made and shared through this resource. From "Future's Guardian" in the world of Champions Online to the 3D renderings of "The Crucible" in the world of the now-defunct City of Heroes.

Even though "The City" was taken away from us two years ago this past December 1st, stories from "The City" continue through 3D renderings and through special programs like Titan Icon that allow us to use the last Beta version of the game program. And, thankfully, more stories from "The City" will continue to come forward as we await the development and release of the so-called "Spiritual Successors".

Of course this would not be possible without both creators and readers, so we here at the City of Comic Creators extend our thanks to both the fan-made comic creators who keep the stories going, and also to the readers who have come to enjoy our tales and hopefully will look forward to what 2015 will bring.

Thank you, everyone, for making 2014 a year of stories worth telling!

How Good Are Your Villains?

BattlerockX

With this being the month of October, the traditional month of villains and all things "evil", I thought I'd give a few tips about villains.

He was simply a "scientist" (which, at the time, were considered "evil") that wanted to stop Superman before the Man of Steel could "thwart his plans". Eventually the character was developed into an arch-villain, complete with a rather complex backstory that linked him to Superman when they were both teens, and then gave him a reason to hate and despise Superman.

Remember that villains are characters too. They don't always do "evil" things just because they're villains. What motivates them to do what they do? Do they have a grudge against the hero? If so, why? Who do they work for? Why do they work for them? What do they do when they're not doing "the wrong things"?

You don't have to come up with full bios for every henchmen or every low-level criminal, but certainly the "Big Bad Boss" (or "B3") and some of the villains you think should be more memorable deserve more than just a designation as "villain".

In fact, the major comic publishers even go so far as to focus their attention on villains, especially around the month of October. In doing so, the readers get to see things from the villain's perspective and also understand a little about why do what they do.

So the question is... are your villains ready for their solo series? Or are they just there to be token punching bags? It's all up to you as creators to answer those questions.

The Deletion Policy

BattlerockX

Just a quick update on last month's announced Deletion Policy.

We will be deleting the files that had been previously requested but were on hold pending the new policy.

We ask that all new requests comply with the policy. If you don't know what it is, then take the time and go over it.

Changing the “Delete” policy

BattlerockX

Not too long ago there was a bit of an issue regarding the request to delete pages. A request was submitted to delete a page and then that person later protested its deletion and demanded its restoration, only to later request that we once again delete the page.

As administrators of this MediaWiki resource, it is our responsibility to make sure that the resource is used properly. That means no SPAM, and it also means keeping the information relevant to the various MMO games and how they apply to the comics that are based in those MMO games.

Wiki pages and other media information such as images and templates are meant to be available and referenced for as long as the resource exists. They should not be considered temporary posts or some rough draft before being used by some other resource.

Unless we are dealing with SPAM, the deletion of a page should only be considered a matter of last resort. The person requesting it should also provide a specific reason why they are deleting it and should not expect to have it later restored.

With this in mind, we are updating our deletion policy to be as follows:

3. To request a deletion, one must put the following template at the top of the page: {{Delete}} You do not have to remove the rest of the information on the page. In fact it would be best if you left the remaining data as is.

8. Multiple deletion and/or restoration requests within a small time frame can be considered an abuse of the resource. The user can be suspended from activity if such abuse continues.

Again, we reiterate that content on this MediaWiki resource is meant to be available for the duration of the resource itself. While we appreciate the continued participation of our members to expand on this resource, it must also adhere to the ultimate goal of the resource itself, which is to provide information for all readers.

Now that we have the formalized Deletion Policy set down, we are giving content creators time to review the policy before enacting it.

We will not begin deleting requested pages until September 1st. (With the obvious exception of SPAM pages, which will be deleted on sight.)

It's Getting HOT In Here!

BattlerockX

It's July already! The year is half-over with.

We're proud to announce that we have launched the MMO Comic Index Content Ratings System or MCICRS.

Battlerock Comics is the first of the fan-made publishers to implement the MCICRS in their first issue of Guardians of the Dawn GRADUATION, but other CCC members and publishers have also expressed interest in using the system in their future publications.

Again, we point out that the ratings system is purely voluntary. There will not be any positive or negative encouragement for publishers to use the system. It's there to help them if they so wish.

Next on the to-do list should be the much-promised Deletion policy.

Welcome To The Summer!

BattlerockX

It's June, the actual start of the summer!

We've been going over some of the proposed changes for the resource.

One of the projects we are working on is developing our own MMO Comic Index Content Ratings System.

Short history: Once upon a time, comic content was regulated by an industry-run group called the Comics Code Authority.

Well, we're going through with coming up with our own ratings system for fan-made MMO-based comics.

We will have more about this in the future, but the important part is that this will be completely voluntary. We won't require you to adhere to the content ratings to have your comics posted here. This is just a little "CYA" measure that will give the readers some idea who the targeted audience is, and it will allow you the comic creator to be free with using the content that you feel comfortable with.

Stay tuned here for more details when they become available.

Changes Ahead

BattlerockX

It's been a while since we've done a news update, and I have to apologize for that.

Normally we would have at least one news update each month, however things have been getting in the way for us administrators.

Cape Radio News

Our friends at The Cape Radio have recently changed their format to reflect what they see is a shift in MMO trends, and that trend actually helps MMO players.

Previously, The Cape was focused on the City of Heroes MMO. But when that MMO was unjustly discontinued in 2012, the people at The Cape have decided to split their focus between Champions Online and The Secret World.

Well back in November, the folks at TCR saw that The Secret World was dwindling in interest and could possibly join COH in MMO oblivion. But rather than concentrate only on one MMO, TCR decided to expand their focus to ALL of the Perfect World MMO games.

So if you are a fan of Champions, Star Trek Online, Dungeons and Dragons Neverwinter, or any of the other PW games, you now have an online radio station for you to enjoy! And maybe that will help inspire you to come up with some new fan-made comics.

BattlerockX 05:49, 5 January 2014 (MST)

Welcome to 2014

BattlerockX

Another year has come and gone, and we welcome 2014 with the hope that things will be better for both comic creators and comic fans.

While things have been bleak with the loss of the City of Heroes MMO, comic creators have managed to keep the spirit going with continuing stories done with the help of archived content and demorecording. Comics such as "The Justice-Knights", "The Crucible" and "New Allied Fighters" prove that while the game itself may be gone, the stories are able to continue.

And more are on the way...

In related news...

It appears that the Champions Online Wiki resource is down[1].

Like the MMO Comic Index, the CO Wiki is fan-made and user-supported. These Wiki resources are done with the tacit approval of the MMO companies, but they are not a part of the MMO. I know some of these people and I can tell you for a fact that the people behind these Wiki resources pay for these out of their own pockets, and they do it because they really love the MMO and they want to do everything they can to make the experience enjoyable for everyone.

Hopefully someone else will pick up where the original admin left off and resume the Champions Wiki. In the meantime, we will adjust the link to point to an archive site so you will still be able to get game-related information.

BattlerockX 10:32, 1 December 2013 (MST)

It's Been A Year...

BattlerockX

On December 1st, 2012, the corporate entity that is NC Soft managed to do what gods, demigods, and even Lord Recluse and Nemesis were never able to accomplish. They utterly destroyed the universe known as City of Heroes.

They were WRONG!

We made noise. We held protests. We let NC Soft know that we were not going to give up without a fight. And the company suffered financially because of it. NC Soft prevailed, but we made sure that it was a phyrric victory for them.

Even though the MMO has been gone for a year, "The City" remains in Facebook groups and message boards... It survives in groups scattered through various other MMOs.

And it survives through our stories. Time, energy, and effort goes into these stories, to remind people that "The City" still goes on even if the MMO cannot.

And more stories are coming.

The Game may be done... but the stories go on!

Behave!

First, we have no tolerance for SPAM. Period. Obviously the vast majority of spammers that try to infest our resource are bot-generated programs that cannot get past our modest barrier, but there are a few that manage to manually post junk. I say this to those of you determined to turn this resource into your own spam-revenue service: YOU ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE! You will be banned and your IP will be blocked. OUR resource, OUR rules. Not yours!

Second, I must remind people that this resources is for fan-made MMO content. This is not a substitute for PRIMUS or other gamer-based role-playing resources. New content is good, but hopefully there's a fan-made comic book involved with it, or at the very least a reference to one. (And bear in mind that as one of the administrators, I DO research these things!) I'm not saying this to discourage people particiapting, but rather as an encouragement to come up with some fan-made comics, or otherwise work with people that do.

And third, I'm asking that people please behave when it comes to comments on the content of others. We have no desire to be den mother forum monitors (cripes, the top two admins are libertarians!), so please spare us all some grief and keep your comments constructive, instructive, informative, or otherwise beneficial. We have a hard enough time dealing with the bottom-feeding spammers.

Catching Up for October

BattlerockX

You've probably noticed that our monthly updates have been getting a little anemic.

Part of the reason why has to do with the workload we creators have to deal with that go beyond our work.

This isn't a job for us. We all work or go to school. We create comics because we have stories to tell and we want to share them with you, but these things don't pay our bills. In fact, because these are fan-based comics, we legally cannot make any money off them, even though we will dedicate our time, effort, and talent into them. So we have to work. We have to make money so we can pay to keep our computers going and to play the MMO games to inspire us and to come up with these great comics for you to enjoy.

This is truly a labor of love for us. We love doing this.

By the way, this is also why some of our stories are better than our mainstream comic counterparts. When you are your own writer, creator, editor, and publisher, you don't have to worry about "editorial mandate" messing things up.

It may take a little longer for some of our work to come out, but I'm sure you'll find that we make the wait worth it!

Besides, it's not like you're having to pay for them, right?

BattlerockX 06:14, 1 August 2013 (MDT)

August is SMOKING HOT!

BattlerockX

As you probably have noticed, we've been making plenty of changes to our little modest MediaWiki resource.

The most visible one is the New Releases section, which you can see with the banner at the top of the Main Page. Since our various member-creators have different release schedules, we've to come up with a way for you to see which new comics have been published. It's also been very helpful that the mighty Ra has been coming up with some promotional ads for some of these new releases, and whenever possible we will share them in the New Releases section for that month.

Another feature which we brought over from the original CoH Comic Index site is the "How To Create A Comic" feature which includes tips and tricks on how to create your own fan-made comic book or comic book series. This "How To" special includes help on layout, cover design, the various page elements, and some particular legal issues surrounding comic book creations. The series uses the City of Heroes MMO as its base, but pretty much every element can apply to other MMOs.

We've also been coming up with more ads for our member-creators to use in their publications, including some for our friends at The Cape Radio. After all, we MMO supporters have to help each other, right? Right now many of the ads are for the Champions Online MMO, but there will be others soon.

And be sure to keep checking back here for more news when it breaks!

Welcome New Readers!

BattlerockX

This is just a quick message to welcome the new and returning viewers of our MediaWiki Resource, especially to those coming to us through the various Facebook groups.

We also want to remind newly-registered users that we do not tolerate the use of this resource for SPAM. We already have some measures in place, but we have seen some questionable user entries as well.

This MediaWiki resource is designed for the purpose of providing information for MMO-based fan-made comics. This does not include third-party websites that promote products outside of that purpose. We have a strong no-SPAM policy in place and much like our previous website we have no qualms banning users and their IPs that violate that policy.

For the others, I hope you will enjoy visiting this resource as we bring in more and more fan-made comics.

BattlerockX 09:06, 31 January 2013 (MST)

Welcome!

BattlerockX

Welcome to the next stage of fan-made comic resources.

Our original wiki resource is still around, but with the corporate-dictated demise of the City of Heroes, our creators have spread out to other realms, coming up with new fan-made stories to tell. Some will continue to tell stories within the "City", but now we are not limited to just one MMORPG.

This new Wiki resource is still in the construction phase, so there are still plenty of things to work on. I hope you will bear with us as we mold and shape this resource into one that will be on par with all of the game resources out there.

In the meantime, the City of Comic Creators also has a presence on Facebook.

All comic creators past and present are welcome to join our CCC Group on Facebook so we will still be able to keep in touch with the various projects.

Click HERE to access the City of Comic Creators Facebook Group.

Just FYI

When we replace news article, place them just under the "Recent News" line from the most recent on back.
