Witchcraft is an in-game character in the world of Champions Online and a signature member of The Champions.
Character History
By all accounts, Bethany Duquesne and her twin sister Pamela lived normal Midwestern suburban lives just outside Detroit. They went to school with other kids, took part in scouting, played sports, and did everything that one would expect normal children to do.
But Bethany and Pamela were not normal children, and their family was far from ordinary.
The Duquesne family were witches. And not just any witches. They were members of the Circle of the Scarlet Moon, one of the more notorious covens in recent history. It was believed that the induction of twin witches into the coven would increase their power, and thus were trained together.
However, while they were twins, the two did not see eye-to-eye. Bethany rejected the plans set by her parents and instead embraced the "good wholesome life" that was supposed to be their cover. On the other hand, Pamela was eager to take the power that was promised. As Bethany became good, Pamela became darker and more twisted.
On the evening of their 18th Birthday, Bethany and Pamela were obligated to attend the induction ceremony into the coven. It was hoped that the ceremony would dispel all fears that Bethany would have and embrace her family's legacy. Instead, she was horrified to watch her sister take the oath and receive the promised power and what it did to her. Bethany used her power to escape from the ceremony and flee for her life.
She ran away as far as she could, using her magic to survive and stay out of trouble. Eventually she arrived in Vibora Bay and got a job at an occult bookstore. Although she tried to keep a low profile, she couldn't help but occasionally use her powers to help others in trouble. This attracted another group of sorcerers called the Trismegistus Council. They realized the potential she possessed and offered to train her to use her powers in a positive way.
Eventually she found herself returning to Detroit, which has since become Millennium City, and taking the name Witchcraft. Although she worked alone at first, she quickly found herself drawn to the call of another hero by the name of Defender to become a part of something greater for the city. She also found herself attracted to the man behind the hero's armor, even though it would be some time before the two acted on their mutual attraction.
Powers and Abilities
Witchcraft is a full-fledged sorceress, capable of wielding various eldrich forces for a variety of purposes.
Personality
In both her personal life and as Witchcraft, Bethany is reserved. Some have even considered her cold and unemotional, even though for her it is out of fear that her emotions would get out of control.
She is driven by two things: her love of Defender, and her need to bring her blood-lusting twin (now known as Talisman) into the light.
