Much of Cassandra Dare's life before she became Cardinal Syn is still being vetted.
Cardinal Syn first appeared in the refugee areas of Kings Row following the "Galaxy City Miracle" of 2012, when thousands of newly-saved citizens found themselves without anything other than the clothes on their backs. Since not every refugee there were good and decent, many were preyed upon by either their fellow refugees or the local gangs.
It was during this time that a mysterious woman armed with a staff appeared to fight off the gangs and the clockwork robots and the undead Vahzilok. Dressed primarily in black and blue and calling herself simply "Syn", she was written off as being a "MidKnight Wannabe". But soon she changed her colors to red and started going by the name of "Cardinal Syn".
Not long after her first appearance as Cardinal Syn, Cass was "chosen" by Kings Row's Guardian, MidKnight X, to help him contain the criminal element, especially the Skulls, which seemed to erupt with the influx of refugees from Praetoria and the destroyed Galaxy City. He found her skills to be acceptable and her desire for justice equal to his own. With that in mind, he asked her to serve as a member of the Guardians of the Dawn, primarily to serve as his "spy" within the organization, but also as a way for him to get help should he need it.
In October of 2013, Kings Row became the target of a surprise invasion by the dark god Mot and the Banished Pantheon. Mot's influence corrupted MidKnight X and turned her mentor into Mot's apostle and general for his army of converted Skull members. Cass turned to the Guardians for help, but most of the members were already busy elsewhere, leaving only herself, Icon Powers, and Pharon to stop Mot's forces. Although they prevailed, MidKnight X withdrew further and further from helping the Guardians.
Almost a year later, Mot's influence tried to resurface when MidKnight X was confronted by his one-time teammate, Ryder Lightning. Cass was able to bring Pharon back to Kings Row to finally purge Knight of all of Mot's dark power. While Knight recovers, Cass is spending more of her time keeping Kings Row secure, but this time with help from other Guardians.
As conflicts rise between registered heroes and members of law enforcement, Syn was being asked to help both a now-depowered Jason Knight and the Guardians. Eventually she would be taking an active role against the corrupt officers of the Blue Dog Squad when they try to kill both TashaTiger and Streetangel.
Before Jason Knight could create a task force to take on the Blue Dog Squad, his badly-burned body was found in the sewers by Sin Stalker. Stalker broke the news to Syn and had a pre-recorded message played from Jason asking her to not seek vengeance against his death, but instead use his information to create a task force that would take down the corrupt cops.
Syn used the information Jason gathered to bring together a small team of heroes that she believed would help her do just that.
Powers and Abilities
Her Primary Power is Staff Mastery. She has been adeptly trained in the use of a quarterstaff for both offensive and defensive purposes. Her favorite staff in the field is a "tech"-based staff with an electro-blade tip that can be adjusted to be either sharp or dull.
Her Secondary Power is Willpower. She can assert herself to survive and endure as long as humanly possible.
She uses a rocket board to travel long distances.
Cardinal Syn was inspired by several characters, including Marvel's Mockingbird, DC's Robin, and Sara Lance/Canary/White Canary from the CWTV series "Arrow".
