Reichsman is a villain in the City of Heroes MMO, born in a world where the Nazis won World War II and rule everything.

Character History

Rise of the Reichsman

In the universe designated Delta Zeta 24-10 by the Portal Corporation, Marcus Cole was an American mercenary who was badly injured by mustard gas in World War I. Seeking a cure, he discovered the lost Well of the Furies. Upon drinking the waters, he was changed by them and gained superhuman abilities.

He used the powers combined with his fascistic tendencies to create a new identity for himself. One that would change the world to his liking.

He became the Reichsman, the ultimate expression of the Nietzschian "super-man".

When the American Nazi Party was founded, Reichsman became not only a member, but he became their leader and champion. Through him, others rallied around the party and formed his elite army, his Amerika Korps. Support for the party ballooned almost overnight.

In 1936, the American Nazi Party became powerful enough to overtake both the Democrats and Republicans in Congress. Despite efforts by FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover to discredit or otherwise take down the Amerika Korps, President Roosevelt finally admitted defeat and stepped down in the November elections, ending his two-term administration, and watched as Charles Lindburgh take the Oath of Office.

When war finally erupted in Europe, European leaders were horrified to discover that America would align with Germany, Italy, the U.S.S.R., and Japan. This was soon followed with scenes of the Reichsman not only meeting with Adolph Hitler in Germany, but also leading the German forces across all of Europe.

Despite their stoic refusal to surrender, Great Britain finally succumbed to the devastation inflicted upon it by the Blitzkrieg bombs and Reichsman's personal attack on London. This was followed by the complete destruction of the U.S.S.R. in a shocking betrayal by Hitler. The leaders of the remaining nations chose to either surrender or else pledge support to the new Axis Earth government.

By the end of the 1940's, the whole planet was united under one governing body, with one leader ruling them all.

But that leader would not be Hitler.

Hitler was seen as weak and ineffective. Goaded by Italian strongman Benito Mussolini, Reichsman engineered a coup that removed Hitler from power, with the hopes that "Il Duche" himself would assume control. But Reichsman saw through that plan and assumed power for himself. He then appointed himself the "Uber-Fuhrer", the all-powerful leader of leaders, and transferred the capitol of Axis Earth to Washington.

New Worlds

For nearly forty years, Reichsman ruled the world with an iron fist. His Amerika Korps kept the United States in check, and the Iron Hand kept Europe and Asia content. The "purge" of the so-called "lesser races" was put to an end, because, compared to Reichsman, all races were "lesser" ones. The focus, instead, was on the future, and the quest to bring Axis Earth to the stars.

Then in 1989, there came word of travelers from another universe. Humans from a reality where history was much different than theirs appeared in Reichshart (formerly Paragon City). Amerika Korps soldiers took them prisoner and interrogated them until they revealed their secrets of how they managed to travel to other realities.

Reichsman saw this as both a threat and an opportunity. New worlds to plunder. New forces to co-opt. New "undesirables" to purge.

He personally led the invasion team over to the Primal Universe, where workers at the Portal Corporation were taken by complete surprise.

Downfall

What Reichsman did not take into account was that this world had their own superheroes. The Freedom Phalanx, led by Statesman, and aided by the Freedom Corps, fought a hard battle against Reichsman's Amerika Korps and they eventually prevailed. Even Reichsman himself could not hold off against heroes that were nearly his equal, and especially against his own counterpart.

Reichsman was defeated. But rather than be returned to his home universe with the other Amerika Korps forces, he was locked away in a stasis chamber underneath the Phalanx headquarters in Baumton until a way could be found to remove his powers.

Restored To Glory

Reichsman remained a prisoner for years. When Baumton was completely devastated by the Rikti attacks in 2002, it was believed Reichsman was killed when the Phalanx headquarters building was destroyed. Much to the shock of others, not only did the stasis chamber remain intact, but Reichsman was eventually released, at which time he took refuge with the 5th Column, the last remnants of the old Nazi guard of the Primal Universe.

Then he did what he normally does... he took over the group, and has since pledged to restore it to the glory it once had.

Powers and Abilities

Reichsman appears to have the same abilities as Statesman, including super-strength, super-speed, flight, invulnerability, and the ability to wield lightning.

He is an incarnate, which is a near-god status.
