World of Warcraft MMO
World of Warcraft is a fantasy-based MMO developed and owned by Blizzard Entertainment.
The MMO (known popularly as "WoW") is based on the fantasy "Warcraft" game originally released in 1994. It was officially released on November 23, 2004, ten years to the day following the release of "Warcraft: Orcs & Humans".
WoW takes place four years after the events of "Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne".
WoW is considered the most popular MMO to date and is the source for many MMO concepts and memes both good and bad. The concept of "Gold Farming" and "RTM Spamming" both started in WoW. Same with the player tactic known "Tank and Spank". The character "Leroy Jenkins" and the phrase "At least I have chicken" came from WoW through a YouTube video.
On June 28, 2011, Blizzard annoucned that WoW went from subscription-only to free-to-play/subscription-only model with severe limitations for free players.
