Willie Sovain is an actor in the world of Champions Online best known for being a pitchman for various services.
Character History
He was born Jefferson William Sovain, but everyone calls him either "Billy" or "Willie".
Some say that "Willie" was born with greesepaint in his blood. We don't know if that is true, but we do know he began auditioning for movies when he was a kid under the name "Billy So".
Unfortunately for him, he was often known simply as "So"... as in "Sooooo... who is he?"
He was quickly typecast as the smart-alec smirky kid, mostly becuse he couldn't help but smirk instead of smile.
The money he made in those small roles helped him and his family. He wanted to make more, but he still needed to go to school.
As a young adult, "Billy So" had a hard time getting roles outside of being an extra. People would say he has potential, but for some reason he just couldn't get anything past being an extra.
In order to make ends meet, he began selling insurance. One of his supervisors remembered him from one of his movie appearances and asked if he would be willing to be their spokesman for local commercials. That's when he became known as "That Insurance Guy".
Eventually "Billy", now "Willie Sovain", began getting more roles than just being an extra. Unfortunately, once again, that smirk of his limited the variety of roles.
His biggest claim to fame was being the title character in the early 90's TV sitcom "Daddy's Dead". Sadly, editorial changes (not to mention the star's demands) eliminated most of Willie's involvement in post-production. Instead of serving as the unseen narrator with the occasional flashback appearance, Willie's "exposure" was reduced to being the face of the living room portrait. But he still got paid, and to this day he still gets royalty checks when the series went into syndication.
In his later years, though, Willie Sovain is known less for his TV and movie roles and more for his work as a pitchman, especially for "conservative" causes and "conservative-leaning" products such as gold marketing, reverse mortgages, investment services, and, of course, insurance. He has a very comfortable contract with Millennium Insurance, one of the leading providers in Millennium City.
"Psilence of Conscience"
(See also the "Psilence of Conscience" storyline.)
Willie was one of many users of Wake-EZ stimulants, since his work pitching product required him to work long hours. This resulted in him developing telepathic powers. The resulting meltdown was shown on WCOC TV and shared on social media. He was eventually treated for his mental meltdown and soon he was back to work pitching product and conservative causes, albeit humbled for a few weeks.
Powers and Abilities
Willie Sovain has no powers, other than his acting ability.
Personality
Much like his last name implies, Willie Sovain is SO VAIN! That's part of the reason why he was really blacklisted from many TV and movie productions.
In Willie's mind, he is as important as any A-list actor. He makes demands like an A-list actor, setting his own work schedule, and hassling production staff until they quit in frustration.
Willie's family all died out in his fifties, leaving him with just his ego. Willie has been marred several times and divorced each time. His marriages do not last because the women in his life discover that it's all about him.
