Punchline is the name of a villain in the now-defunct City of Heroes MMO.
Character History
According to Judith Punch, she was a normal, everyday, average, boring housewife. Loyal, dutiful, faithful. She did everything for her husband Rodney. Everything he wanted done, she did it.
Except have children.
For whatever reason, and there were several, the Punches could not have children. Many friends and acquaintances considered that to be a blessing, because the truth was that the marriage of Rodney and Judith was far from peaceful.
Rodney was aggressive. He had a temper. He was known to start fights.
But it turned out that Judith was worse. Judith would goad her husband into fights. She would even start fights in a way to get him in trouble. She would harass and henpeck him in every way possible. Rodney would react by going out and drinking, which would lead Judith to accuse him of infidelity. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Finally, in 2012, it all came to a head when Judith picked up a sledgehammer and smashed her husband's head in numerous times.
At first she claimed that it was self-defense. After all, she never had the police called on her. Rodney did. Rodney was known to have a temper. Judith was "kind and meek".
But the evidence, along with statements from friends and relatives, showed Judith as the real monster. And the "self-defense" argument collapsed when the evidence showed that Rodney was hit from behind with the sledgehammer.
She was convicted of murder in 2014 and sentenced to life behind bars. The inmates started calling her "Punchline" because of her name and how she constantly referred to things as "a joke".
However, only a few years into her sentence, she claimed to have made a breakthrough recovery for her abusive personality disorder. Her doctors were able to convince the state parole board to grant her limited release in 2017.
The following year, however, she made her "recovery" the real joke. A plan to get thousands of dollars stored in a safety deposit box fell apart when she killed her "boyfriend" to get all of the money herself, and then found out that the money wasn't where he said it was.
She was soon taken down by the tag-team of Artema and the Elite Ice Queen and taken back to prison.
Powers and Abilities
Punchline's primary trick is her "Punch-and-Judy Show", which is a huge turbo-thrust mallet. This wondrous piece of technology can collapse and reassemble in a matter of seconds. When the engine kicks in, the hammer has an impact force equal to that of a semi-tractor trailer moving at sixty-miles-an-hour.
Her secondary ability is her force-of-will. She is determined to get what she wants, and she doesn't care who has to suffer for it as long as it is not herself.
Personality
Judith Punch suffer from abusive personality disorder, as well as being a narcissist. She is afraid of losing statue, status, influence, and relationships. If they have to end, however, they will end entirely on her own terms.
She is a sadist. She loves to inflict pain on others as a way to control them.
Related Information
Punchline is based on several notorious characters using a clown or mime act.
