The Secret World is a fantasy-based MMO owned by Electronic Arts.
The MMO was developed by Funcom and released on July 3, 2012.
The MMO is an original environment that incorporates ancient mythologies, history based partially in reality, urban legends, and pop culture all as part of its back-story. Funcom developers reportedly used the works of H.P. Lovecraft, Stephen King, and the Indiana Jones franchise as inspiration.
The MMO went from subscription-only to the hybrid free-to-play/pay-for-features/subscription-only model on December 12, 2012.
