Where It All Began

City Of Heroes - The Original One-Shot

With the scheduled end of the City of Heroes MMO, we say goodbye to eight years of both famous and infamous adventures.

In honor of the heroes of Paragon City, we go back to where it first started.

The original "City of Heroes" comic was a one-shot special published by Dark Horse Comics designed to introduce readers to Paragon City. Although the series focused on newcomer Thunder-Clap, it also introduced Apex and War Witch, two favorite characters that would eventually be featured in the Blue King Studios incarnation of the series.

The original comic would set the stage for two more incarnations of the comic series published by both Blue King and Top Cow, as well as inspire all of the fan-made creations made since then.

We here at the City of Comic Creators would like to thank the developers in Cryptic Studios and Paragon Studios for eight years of inspiration and encouragement. The MMO may be ending, but the adventure will never end.

Higher Education Goes To the Next Level

File:DawnEnterprises-26.jpg
Dawn Enterprises #26

"Dawn Enterprises" comes from the same people behind "The Forever Men". The series uses 3D rendering to provide character action in ways that traditional screenshots cannot.

Dawn Enterprises is the story of coalition of groups. The Dawn Academy was originally devised by Elizabeth Bloodmoon (now Shirako) as a center for the study of the healing arts; As the Academy expanded, so has its curriculum, and now it serves as a safe haven and center for instruction in a wide variety of fields, both technological and arcane - as well as home to very capable superheroes of academic bent.

However, Elizabeth soon realized the value of what she wryly refers to as 'pre-emptive care;' The Aegis of the Dawn was born soon after, a home for noble warriors and brave protectors. The Aegis operates openly and proudly, ready to raise their shield wherever needed.

Sometimes doing good means doing good in secret, however, and Dorian Summers created Fennec Enterprises - which is, depending on who you ask, a computer company, or a front for the secretive Rapid Response Team. Just because they stick to the shadows, however, does not mean they aren't ready for a fight.

The addition of Chelsea LaFitte and her group to the allies became soon a bliss. Acting as Fennec's Arcane Arm, by Chelsea's own suggestion, Paragon Gris Gris has always been a home to second chances and people who always had a hard time to fit, yet do all that they must to help.

In Issue #11, an ancient hero is reborn in the body of his descendant. Who is he? And how does his return affect the Guardians? Plus, the assimilation of Shadowborn into the Bilderburg Alliance takes a new step, and a new man is in charge. How does this affect the "agreement" made between Alex and Andrew Wentworth?

Futana: An Old School Comic

Futana #1

"Futana" or "Futana: The Danger Ninja" is a series about a hero with the same name. Trained by the Back Alley Brawler, he spends his nights fighting the evils of the city.

What makes this series unique is that it was created in the traditional method of ink and paper, much like the original comic books and newspaper strips. No screen shots, no 3D animation, about as low-tech as one can get in terms of an electronic document, and yet still provides enough of a visual and story to keep the reader intrigued.

City of Fading Light #1

Although Paragon City and the Rogue Isles are supposed to be two separate locations, at least one comic-creating team managed to combine them into one universal metropolitan area.

"City of Fading Light" is a three-issue series that is set in the hypothetical "Link City". In this city, their greatest champion has supposedly fallen, leaving his sidekick and friends to continue the battle for truth and justice. Unfortunately, things aren't as they appear to be and things that people once believed are turned upside-down.

See One Of The Best Of The Creators

The City of Heroes Wedding Special

Very rarely is a Comic Creator so good at what they do that their fan-based work ends up being recognized by the City of Heroes MMO.

And yet we here at the City of Comic Creators have one such person.

ChaseArcanum originally started doing comics as part of a comic contest. Eventually Chase started coming up with Phoenix Circle Guides to help players understand some of the most significant updates in the MMO.

But possibly the special that best got the attention of the City of Heroes administrators was "The Wedding of Manticore and Sister Psyche". This special issue captured the whole Spring Fling/Valentine's Day special, culminating with the wedding of two of the key signature heroes. This special, along with the Phoenix Guide to Issue 12, has been listed as part of City of Heroes official comic page.

A rare honor indeed! One that we all wish we could enjoy.

Unfortunately, Mike Lee's failings are not just limited to his acting skills. The world of the hero is always filled with temptations, and this hero is about to learn the consequences of indulging in those temptations.

In Issue #7, things seem a little bleak for the Guardians. Pyrogurl is testifying for the Citizen Grand Jury, Galatea Powers is having to deal with a certain nosy office manager, the media is being a little hard on the Guardians and on DA Alex Wentworth, and Icon Powers was recruited into helping find the missing Midnight Arachnia, which takes him into some pretty dangerous places.

"GGRRR" is short for "Guys & Gals Ready to Rock & Roll", a supergroup determined to make a difference in Paragon City.

Originally crafted in the spirit of classic Marvel Comics, the series now uses cutting-edge three-dimensional graphics to provide art as in-depth as the characters themselves.
