SOCRATES Terminal in Millennium City

SOCRATES is the name of the ultra-advanced super-computer network that operates in Millennium City.

SOCRATES was initially created by Harmon Industries as a gift for The Champions, but eventually became the de-facto network for all heroes in Millennium City, overriding both the PRIMUS database and UNTIL's own network. It is physically located inside Champions HQ.

Features

SOCRATES has several key features that make it an important tool for heroes.

  • Communications - SOCRATES has multi-layered encryption for personal communications, which allows heroes and support personnel to engage in personal one-on-one communications. In emergencies, SOCRATES can tie in all personal communicators so essential information and warnings can reach the maximum number of people in the shortest amount of time.
  • Database - Heroes can use voice-activated connections to SOCRATES to request information about both registered heroes and also for all known criminals and criminal organizations. SOCRATES is also tied into almost every database system for law enforcement and Homeland Security.
  • Criminal Monitoring - Being tied into every government agency network also allows SOCRATES to have an active list of "hot spots" of crimes and potential disasters that heroes can respond to. The most recent feature is the ON ALERT system, which organizes heroes into rapid-response teams to address these "trouble-spots".
  • Kiosks - Thanks to carefully-placed kiosks, heroes don't have to carry around communicators all the time or spend their time going to Champions HQ. All registered heroes in good standing can access the SOCRATES network through these kiosks by using either voice, fingerprint, or retinal identification.

Avatar

Despite being named from one of the most famous thinkers, the SOCRATES system uses an avatar and persona that is distinctly female. No explanation has been given why the designers used a female personality.
