Major Catastrophe is a character in the now-defunct City of Heroes MMO.

He is a rival YouTube personality thanks in no small part to his brother, Captain Catastrophe.

Character History

Cain Catastrophe is the son of the infamous U.S. officer General Catastrophe, the man so named because he almost started all-out nuclear war with the Soviet Union in the 1977 incident in Finland.

Cain was raised along with his brother in a strict military upbringing. But while his brother wanted to be a hero, Cain wanted to be like his father. Unfortunately, he was too much like his father and was quickly drummed out of the military. Thankfully, the mercenary group Wyvern saw his skills and gave him the Rogue Isles as a playground.

Soon, he got a reputation as "The Major", a cocky wild card that made life miserable for Lord Recluse.

The Wyvern Catastrophe

Cain was involved in the horrific incident involving Tina Bello, a Bloody Bay survivor who became a pop star.

Cain was led to believe that Tina was really "Arbiter Tibellus", an Arachnos elite who acquired stolen weapons from Crey Industries. After encountering Tibellus in an abandoned building in Atlas Park along with Sin Stalker, Cain was left groggy and empty-handed for a second time.

That night, at a special concert hosted by Tina and aired live on the Paragon News Network, Cain killed Tina in the middle of the stage with one of his Wyvern arrows. The shock of the very-public execution committed on live television led to Cain's quick arrest and the ultimate realization that Tina was Tibellus's twin sister.

Wyvern, with the help of owner Justin Sinclair, arranged for Cain to "escape" to the Rogue Isles, but not before being mentally stripped of all he knew about Wyvern and Paragon City.

(Note: This incident is the reason why Wyvern is not allowed to operate in the United States anymore.)

Cain arrived on the shores of Mercy Island with just the clothes on his back and a determination for revenge.

Family Trouble

A few years later, Cain, now calling himself Major Catastrophe was using his freelance influence to make life miserable for his brother, who now operates as a failed hero called Captain Catastrophe.
