"The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, and The Weird. Especially The Weird. Those are who you should be focusing on. Anyone can complain about a politician sleeping around. But the politician won't be the one that saves your neighbor from being mugged. Or get kittens out of trees. Or keep the gangs from burning your house down. It is the hero that does these things. And that is who we should be looking at and wondering who they are and getting the public to know them."
- Kenny "KC" Emerson in a PNN staff meeting, 1995

Kenneth "KC" Emerson is the long-standing General Manager of the Paragon News Network. Few people call him "Kenny". His friends call him "KC". Everyone else calls him either "Mister Emerson" or "Sir".

History

KC is Paragon City's version of Ted Turner. Emerson was born and raised in Paragon City. He graduated from Boston School of Journalism and interned with WBZ Television before returning to Paragon City to work for WPGN radio as a station producer. He was present in 1977 during the Finland disaster, which brought the world to the brink of nuclear war. This eventually elevated him to an executive position in the company.

In the 1990's following the rise and fall of the Reichsman conflict, investors saw an opportunity to transform the station into an ongoing cable news provider that would rival those on the national level. KC, who then was the young station manager for WPGN radio, was hired to captain this new cable network.

KC fought hard to curb the trend of other news networks to focus on political fluff and scandal and instead directed the reporters to concentrate on the city's number one resource: the heroes.

Personal Life

Emerson has been happily married for thirty years, although he admits to some "rough periods", which he attributed to transitions in his career.

Powers and Abilities

KC has no powers other than his mastery of a local media empire.

Relationships in PNN

Rona Cosell - According to certain rumors, Rona has a video which she threatens to release if she is ever fired from her position in the company. Emerson has denied such rumors, pointing to Cosell's prime-time ratings as the reason why she remains where she is.

Carson - Emerson's connection to famed tailor Carson has always been suspect, especially after he was given a show which has gained little draw.

Robin Steed - KC has great pride in Robin's work and considers her to be the model of journalism.

Sally Carson-Ramirez - It is said Emerson brought in Sally around the same time as Rona's rumored "blackmail tape". The real question is if Sally was hired because of "the tape", or was "the tape" brought up because of her being hired.

Matt Meyers - Emerson is a long-time friend of Matt and was happy to bring him in front of the cameras after the firing of Jason Smith.

Jason Smith - Emerson believes that Jason Smith had potential, but he wasted it on his ego.

Nan Bracer - KC had high hopes for Nan, but her southern drawl turned people off, and when the truth of her past was revealed by, of all people, "Garry-Freaking-Becker", he was shamed into pulling her show before it could debut. Since then, he's been trying to hold up the company's end of her contract.

April Ramirez - He think that young April has potential, but the young woman has been distracted with too many issues, including marital problems.

Garry Becker - KC was never happy with bringing in the controversial talk show host, and he had to fight the urge to throw a party when Becker essentially talked himself out of a job in 2011. But he couldn't deny that Becker initially brought in ratings, and it kept Rona in her place to have in-house competition. It was for that same reason that he eventually found himself bringing Becker back, albeit only as a member of PNN Radio.

Reverend Neo-Con - KC has an even worse view of the so-called "Reverend". While he was glad when the extreme radio host forced himself into exile, he knew he had to bring the man back to Paragon City for reasons he has yet to explain.
