"When I was a kid, I learned early on that it's kill or be killed. If you don't steal, then you don't eat. If you don't take from others, then they'll take from you. And if you're disrespected, then you better take that person down in a way that everyone will know that it's you."
- Jack the Blade

Jack the Blade is a notorious criminal in the world of Champions Online MMO.

Character History

Early Years

Jackson Blasdel was born in a trailer park in unincorporated Fort Washington in Maryland to a single mother with a dubious reputation. He didn’t know who his father was. Nobody knew for that matter. His mother “got around” a lot, and she was in jail for prostitution when she found out she was pregnant. She ended up carrying the child almost to term behind bars, and then gave birth in the trailer park after she was released. She had her tubes tied afterward so there would not be any more “accidents” like Jackson.

From an early age, Jackson learned how to grift and scheme and steal. He needed to in order to get food for himself and his mother. The other kids in the trailer park were mostly children of drug addicts and prostitutes, so they became his teachers and mentors. Many would not be there for long. The park was raided often and Family Services would take many of the kids away.

When Jack turned twelve, he was sent away to live with his aunt and uncle just outside of Millennium City. The circumstances surrounding that decision were kept secret. He would never see his mother again. (Not long afterward, she vanished and was presumed dead.)

Jack of Blades

Jack ran away from his relatives a lot. Often it would be to go to the city. He found support within the criminal gang known as The Black Aces. Since his name was “Jack” and they had hierarchical levels named “Jack”, it was easy for him to become one of them and to move up to become a “Jack of Blades”, especially given his skill with knives during his childhood years in the trailer park.

He was 18 when he killed an MCPD lieutenant in cold blood in front of the officer’s home. He did it because the lieutenant was conducting a task force against the group and he wanted to show they couldn’t be touched. Instead, it escalated the conflict with the police. The Aces couldn’t protect him at this point, so they sent him away as far as possible, supposedly to “expand their notoriety.”

Jack traveled towards the East Coast, making “friends” along the way and robbing people so he could go to the next city before he could get caught. He developed a reputation of a “ladies’ man”, seducing women while also pilfering them of their money. He also made deals with the various criminal elements, often to provide weapons. People outside of Millennium City didn’t understand the Black Aces, so while he called himself “Jack of Blades”, that eventually morphed into “Jack the Blade”.

The Massacre

When Jack was 26, he arrived in Providence, Rhode Island. It didn’t take long for him to snare a young woman named Aubrey Darnell. She was a secret “wild child” who looked for the occasional fling, and Jack was willing to oblige. She was “fun” for a while, but then he had to leave for a while on a freelance job.

He returned to find she was engaged and wanted nothing more to do with him. He didn’t accept that. He threatened to expose her “sins” to everyone that knew her. At first she agreed but eventually rejected him and revealed her secret to her family and friends.

At the time, Jack had been arrested for a minor charge and spent six months in jail under a fake identity. He was released before officials could discover his real identity and his numerous warrants. When he was released, he discovered Aubrey was getting married. He moved quickly to gather a small team that would be willing to carry out something horrific and memorable.

On the day of the wedding, Jack and his team waited until the right moment to strike. When the priest asked if anyone had objections, Jack appeared with his well-armed team. They quickly eliminated most of the guests in attendance and then kept Aubrey’s fiance and family alive just long enough for Jack to personally kill each of them one at a time, before finally turning to Aubrey.

Jack knew just where to cut Aubrey to leave a “lasting memory” so that no-one else would “know” her like he did, if she survived. He then let her wander away bleeding and in pain.

With the task finished, they fled. Most of the crew were captured, some by a fugitive hunter named Ravenclaw, others by the FBI. But Jack escaped, as he always did.

This time, Jack was notorious in all new ways. Now he’s on the FBI’s Top Ten most wanted list.

Millennium City Villain

Eventually Jack returned to Millennium City to find shelter within the criminal underworld. No longer just a lackey, Jack the Blade is now a notorious villain in his own right.

One of Jack's most notable crimes in the city has been to instigate gang wars by supplying all the gangs with specific weapons along with a "story" about how the weapons got blood stains on them. This led to his first encounter with the female vigilante now known as Red Sinner, who is carrying on in Ravenclaw's place. He is unaware that she is also the very woman he left for dead.

Powers and Abilities

Jack's skills come from years of living with and associating with the criminal element. He was raised at an early age to steal and manipulate people in order to get what he wants.

He earned the name "Jack the Blade" because of his skill with knives and his willingness to use them.

Personality

Jack comes off as a charming individual, but don't be fooled. He is a clinical psychopath who will do anything to get what he wants.

Jack has been categorized as being a misogynist. He sees all people as tools, but he has a particular disdain for women. Profilers believe that it is because of his mother's career as a prostitute that causes him to obsess with seducing, manipulating, and later killing women.
