J-Star is a character in the City of Heroes MMO. She was once a popular centerfold model before becoming a businesswoman and part-time superhero.
Character History
Jennifer Jean Star was born and raised in Paragon City. A car accident when she was a young child left her with a broken back. With conventional medicine unable to allow her to walk, her parents turned to friends with the Order of Equius, a little-known mystical sect. They bonded pieces of a broken talisman into her spine, which allowed the talisman to operate as whole, and restored her mobility.
In order for the talisman to continue to function properly, she was required to perform regular mystical exercises, which not only re-attuned the talisman to her spine, but also gave her a greater sense of balance and control. They trained her how to fully use the talisman's properties, which gave her the means to defend herself and to do things slightly more than what normal people could do.
Glam Bunny
As a young adult, Jenny took part in beauty contests to earn money for college. This led to modeling gigs, and eventually to an offer to pose for Glam Bunny Magazine, where she became the Glam Bunny for August 1994. It was speculated that she was a strong contender for the Glam Bunny Beauty for 1995, but some behind-the-scenes wrangling made sure that the title went to Ms. September, Jen Glamour.
Still, Jenny took it in stride. She did her obligatory appearances for the magazine, then went back to Paragon City, where she went to college to get her business degree. She didn't follow the path of other Glam Bunny models and move to either Los Angeles or Miami. But she still had her numerous fans and followers, and she did keep a regular website going to keep in touch with them.
In 2000, Jenny was at a reunion convention with her fellow bunnies when she found out about adventure sporting events, and that led her to come up with the idea of doing adventure races with a team of other Glam Bunnies. This was the start of the Glam Squad, and in 2001, they competed in the Global Extreme Race in Australia. This earned some media attention and some respect for the models.
A year later, the members of the Glam Squad were called to California to negotiate the rights to a movie based on their experiences in the race. It was a major production with support of Glam Bunny Magazine, and the models themselves were promised not only creative control over the movie but also cameo appearances. But before shooting could begin, the studio was "convinced" to let Jen Glamour take over as the star, and playing the "founder" of the group instead of Jenny. Jenny's whole part in the movie, not to mention her creative control behind-the-scenes, was written out. Still, she was compensated as per their contract.
Jenny was out helping to promote the movie when the Rikti invaded this world. She firmly believed that it was the only reason why she survived; she was away from Paragon City. After the war, she returned home with a promise to never leave Rhode Island ever again. She would only do Glam Bunny appearances if they were within the state, but otherwise she would not have anything to with Glam Bunny or adventure racing. She rented an apartment outside of Paragon City and focused on her new business.
Hero
Jenny got her first taste of being a hero in 2005, when a local autograph and fitness seminar featuring the Glam Squad was disrupted by Jen Glamour's sudden telepathic breakdown. It seemed her beauty was the result of her mutant telepathic power and a drug made from the illegal substance Superadine. Jenny's training allowed her to approach Jen and shut her down long enough for Sister Psyche to arrive and take Jen Glamour into custody.
Two years later Jen was back in Paragon City with a childhood friend when they were accosted by Hellions. Jen made quick work of them thanks to her enhanced training. This also inspired her to take a new path as a registered hero.
When she was starting, she was recruited to the Guardians of Might hero group, but eventually that group disbanded, and she was later recruited by Battlerock X to join his secretive Omega 2 hero group. With their help, she was able to handle personal threats such as a deranged fanboy stalker and Jen Glamour herself.
Retirement
In 2012, she chose to retire from being a hero after completing her final mission on November 30th, 2012, and then staring out into the sunset on Talos Island. With her modeling website already shuttered, this allowed her to spend all of her time both on her personal business and with her family.
Powers and Abilities
J-Star's primary ability is martial arts. She is a skilled hand-to-hand combatant thanks to her training with the Order of Equius.
Her secondary ability is super reflexes. She is attuned to her environment thanks to the mystical talisman in her spine. She can also focus her mystical energy to leap great distances.
Personality
Jenny is bright, warm, and friendly. Her optimism is seen as being as much of an asset as her physical appearances, which is why she is liked by friends and loved by her fans even years after her retirement from modeling.

J-Star was first seen in the text-only story "Battle of the Jens". She has since been referenced in "Furia and the Guardians" as one of the people that could possibly hinder LexieTech operative Jen Glamour.
According to writer/creator David 2, J-Star was heavily inspired by his friend, Playboy Playmate Jennifer Lavoie.
