Databank is a character in the now-defunct City of Heroes MMO.

He/It is a member of the Justice-Knights as well as a consultant and honorary member of the Guardians of the Dawn superhero group.

Character History
According to Justice-Knights member Lady Inferus, Dr. Axel Cooper was a technological genius who managed to invent a silicon-based artificial brain complex enough to store human thoughts and memories.  To escape death, Axel put his own mind into the construct, which was housed inside a crude android body.  Now virtually immortal, he used his new chance at life to become a hero, going by the name Accelerator.

As Accelerator, he was a founding member of the Paragon City incarnation of the Justice-Knights, serving as the team's technical expert.  But when he wasn't working with the Knights, he was either pursuing the unrequited affections of Inferus or creating more advanced and more "human" android bodies to transfer his mind into.

Then, when one of the Knights became demonically-possessed, Accelerator was torn to pieces.  But, knowing such a possibility could exist as a hero, Axel had a contingency in place for such a situation.  His mind was uploaded to his lab's server so it could be transferred into a backup brain and then into a new body.

Unfortunately something went wrong in the process.  Axel's lab was found in burning ruins.  The only thing they could retrieve was Axel's prototype android body dubbed "Databank".

What the Knights did not know was that Axel's mind was partially-transferred to his "next" body, an android body that had all of Axel's emotions and personality but lacked his memories.  Operating on pure emotion and instinct, "Accelerator 2.0" focused his attentions on destroying the Justice-Knights, whom "he" feels abandoned him.

However, a second contingency protocol had transferred Axel's memories into the Databank body.  But rather than to activate him, the decision was made to keep Databank offline to preserve Axel's memories in hopes that they could be transferred into a better artificial brain.  Paradoxically, Axel was the only one who could successfully come up with such a process.

"Bad Business"

Following an assault on the Justice-Knights ship, Lady Inferus and Dr. Frostburg needed help keeping the Gilgamesh from sinking. Infernius made the decision to activate Databank, since it could interface with the ship's systems faster than them. Unfortunately, at the same time, the ship was under assault from both the Vanguard and from Accelerator 2.0 with robot drones from CyCorp.

The end result of that conflict left Frostburg alive, Lady Inferus dead, and both the Gilgamesh and Databank sinking into the ocean.

That part of the story is still being told.

Guardian Consultant

At some point in 2011, following the "disbanding" of the Guardians of the Dawn superhero group, Databank was recruited by SERAPH Special Projects Kent Poderes (otherwise known as Icon Powers) to serve as a "consultant" for one of his projects. This project ended up being the resurrection of the Guardians as a "ghost group". Databank helped bring the group's base back online in a minimal capacity as part of their overall plan.

As a gesture of appreciation, Kent gave Databank an artificial personality program that would give substance and texture to Axel's memories. Unfortunately the personality demanded too much of Databank's resources and proved to be a danger to his/its function, so it had to be removed. This program would later be given to Jason Knight for his own lair's artificial assistant known as Sentry.

Once the supergroup was formally restored and fully reactivated, Databank continued to serve as the group's technical consultant. He/it was essential in the transfer of the base's original CPCU system into its larger home as well as being able to integrate with the various networks.

Databank continues to function as both a consultant and honorary member of the Guardians of the Dawn and as a member of the Justice-Knights.

"Icarus"

During the "Icarus" storyline in "Furia and the Guardians", Databank was onboard the Gilgamesh in orbit with Dr. Frostburg and Biosphere when the massive coronal mass ejection threatened Earth. Databank was the one that warned the team of the threat posed by both the CME and the sudden second magnetic field that was formed by Daybright and was the one that moved the Gilgamesh to a safer location, thus sparing the ship from electromagnetic damage.

Following the CME's passing Databank aided the other Knights and Galatea Powers in rescuing the surviving Kheldians, as well as prevent the last surviving orbital defense platform from crashing into the Earth.

For his/its actions with the Knights during this crisis he/it joined the other Knights and Galatea in receiving the highest award from President Barack Obama.
