"Champions Online" is a superhero-themed MMO owned by Perfect World Entertainment.

Champions Online was created by Cryptic Studios based on the traditional paper-based game published by Hero Games. It was first released on September 1st of 2009.

Champions Online incorporated many of the features that Cryptic originally used in their work with the City of Heroes MMO, including several that the developers claimed they couldn't bring into City of Heroes.

The game moved from subscription-based to free-to-play/pay-for-features/subscription-only service in January of 2011.

The MMO was transferred from Atari to Perfect World Entertainment in 2012.
