Captain Catastrophe

Captain Catastrophe is the central character in the YouTube video comic series "Ask Captain Catastrophe". He will be featured in an upcomming issue of "Tales from Paragon City".

Character History

Very little is really known about Captain Catastrophe before coming to Paragon City. His first name is Xavier, but his last name is considered a mystery.

Catastrophe claims that he wasn't born a mutant, but that he bought his mutation through the Internet. Genetic scientists, however, refute this claim, pointing out that claims of Internet-based "triggers" only affect already-existing mutatnt genes. His choice of weapons and costumes, though were all based on his obsession with 90's-style comic books.

From the moment he first appeared in the city, he was considered the prime example of a "team-killer". He was cocky, self-absorbed, and quick to run into a fight and expect his teammates to heal and resurrect him. It wasn't long before other heroes considered him too toxic to team with and quickly distanced themselves from him.

But this was the least of his problems, as he also spent too much time trying to hit on female Freedom Corps agents to the point that he was actually barred by legal restraining order from being anywhere near the Freedom Corps Headquarters in Galaxy City.

City Hall officials have attempted to curb Catastrophe of his "team-killer" tendencies, remembering what happened to Frostfire. They asked that the small and little-known supergroup Noble Champtions recruit him so they could teach him teamwork. (The same supergroup that the Paragon Pundit is a member of.) Unfortunately the only team interaction he was interested in was with the female members. Since he was barred from staying at the Hero Barracks, he took a part-time job with City Hall to afford an apartment in Atlas Park.

Goo Incidents

Catastrophe gained notoriety after a canister of Hamidon Goo ruptured in the D.A.T.A. office in City Hall following his use of his fire-based powers. The goo reacted to his fire and expanded to coat everything in the building before being contained by Freedom Corps agents.

City Officials quickly put the blame on Catastrophe and ordered him to perform community service for the City. They determined that the best way to serve the city would be to provide public service messages on YouTube.

At some point during his public service, a second goo incident was blamed on Catastrophe, even though he was not in the building at the time of the rupture. This second incident caused suspicion that he was being framed.

Powers and Abilities

Archetypeicon tanker.pngOriginicon mutation.png Captain Catastrophe is classified as a Tanker archetype with Mutant origins.

His primary ability is Fiery Aura. He can use fire to protect or heal himself. Because he uses this power often at all times (and has a pungent smell), he is teased for having "flaming 'roids".

His secondary ability is War Mace. He uses a fantasy-designed Battle Mace to bash his enemies as he shouts the name of his favorite hero.

Unlike most mutants, he claims that his power wasn't as much by birth as from cheap mutation triggers that he purchased through the Internet. This also gave him his pointed ears.
