			Despair prefers to forget who he was before the Shivan meteor attack that devastated [[Galaxy City]] in 2011. He doesn't remember if he was born there or was just visiting, or if he even has family or loved ones. Who he was before had died when the meteors fell.

			He was "reborn" amidst the ruins of the area, surrounded by monsters made of energy and rock and metal. His first sounds were those of crying and wailing in misery. His first smells were of smoke and death. His first taste was the primordial ooze that spattered upon him by soldiers of [[Arachnos]] when they killed the nearest monster. Those same soldiers then promised shelter for him and the others in the [[Rogue Isles]].

			But for those who chose to go with Arachnos, it was a brutal life as a refugee. Refugees were victimized the moment they arrived. Those who could fight back survived. He survived. He was offered a chance to be one of them, but he refused. They beat him, attacked him mercilessly and tore into his face. He survived. He survived and made himself stronger.

			He made his way back to America, where he ended up in New York City. A real-estate tycoon was looking for someone who could "solve problems". He promised to solve them. He succeeded.

			Since then he was known simply as '''"Despair"''', for that is what he brings.

			==Return to Paragon City==
			At the behest of [[Thomas Wield\|Deputy Police Chief Thomas Wield]], Despair was asked to come to Paragon City to personally kill the vigilante [[Jason Knight]]. Despair accepted the assignment, but only because his boss had a much grander plan in the works.


			=Powers and Abilities=
			Despair's primary ability is '''Street Justice'''. He is a brutal hand-to-hand combatant who uses his immense size and super-human strength to overpower his adversaries.

			His secondary ability is '''Regeneration'''. He heals from any injury faster than normal.

			==Personality==
			Despair's time in the Rogue Isles is never in the past for him. He carries the scars on him at all times. He is forced to wear a face-mask to speak. The voice is artificial, but not robotic. He works alone because that is the only way he knows how to operate.

			Despair is his motive as well as his name. He is borderline sadistic in his brutality, eager to show his victims that they have no hope at all. He takes pleasure in depriving people of everything that has meaning to them. He takes pleasure in showing people not just pain and misery, but absolute despair.

			According to creator David 2/Battlerock X, Despair was inspired by the DC Comics villain Bane as seen in the movie "The Dark Knight Rises".
