New page

The Champions Online Tutorial is an optional feature for newly-created characters in the Champions Online MMO.

The tutorial is a way for players to get used to their new characters in a crisis situation, seeing how their powers work against an enemy, working with other players and with non-player characters in missions, discovering side-missions, and taking on their first arch-enemy. The challenges are relatively light, but there are still places to "recover" if you happen to be defeated.

The tutorial has been refined from its early incarnation to be a "simulation" instead of part of the MMO's lore, although the elements remain the same.

Tutorial Summary
Original Tutorial
In the original tutorial, you arrive in Millennium City during the Qularr Invasion of 2009 (the year the MMO began). Much of the city has been encased in force fields from an overhead Qularr mothership. Alien power dampeners are in place, limiting superpowers in the area. The Champions, that world's premiere superhero team, are scattered through the city trying to fight off the invading insects. (You get an award if you manage to talk with all of them before the final battle.)

The first missions involve destroying a Qularr nursery before the eggs hatch, fighting Qularr drones to secure important documents for Mayor Biselle, rescuing trapped paramedics from debris, and getting information about the power dampening technology being used. Side missions include rescuing a trapped Foxbat, finding needed medicine, and locating a missing cat.

Later missions involve Champions Headquarters. After meeting with a hologram of Doctor Silverback, you help Ironclad defend his mega-gun from Qularr invaders alongside other players before being led to the entranceway of the building. Once inside, you discover both Qularr and Destroid remains, and you team up with Defender against Black Talon for your first arch-enemy battle. After defeating Black Talon, you're tasked with shutting down the power dampeners and then launching Ironclad's mega-gun to defeat the Qularr once and for all.

Afterward, you leave Champions HQ and you see a montage of scenes where you help the Champions and others rebuild the damage in the city. The final "mission" of the tutorial involves your character getting a hero's welcome on the steps of the Champions HQ building. You receive a key to the city from Mayor Biselle with all the members of the Champions assembled. Upon exiting the tutorial, you find yourself in front of the Powerhouse Facility so you can finish your character's leveling up, training, and get starter gear.

Updated Tutorial
The revised tutorial is now a "hologram simulation" instead of being an actual part of in-game lore.

You start in the training facility of Ravenswood Academy being asked to test out their simulation of the 2009 invasion. Once inside the simulation, many of the missions remain the same. Some have been changed or outright removed. The "rescue Foxbat" side-mission was expanded slightly to include rescuing his gear.

After securing Champions HQ and firing the mega-gun, you're given an abbreviated montage of scene before returning to the simulation room to get your final reward from the headmistress and then being sent right to the Powerhouse.

Related Information
The original tutorial was seen in "The Lost Adventures of Galatea Future" #1, as it was the character's (and her creator's) first experience in the MMO. All footage shown in that issue came directly from that tutorial.
